Correct paint code?

I am in the middle of trying to tidy up my Zed so as to look a bit decent at the Coventry show.

(I fear it may be the worst one there if I don't do something!)

I have been using Arctic white 326 from Halfords but it doesn't match, seems a bit creamy. Not bright white at all!

Can someone help me identify the correct paint code please?

I would suggest that either your car has had a cheap ass blow over in the past, or the Halfords paint is crap.

Try getting some paint from paints4u. They're the best paint match I've found in aerosol form.

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

Car is still in original paint. I have known this car most of it's life.

Looks like Halfords paint maybe the problem, but having said that, I think mine may be classed as Super White which is probably where I am going wrong.

The paint code is the important bit.

My car's colour TK3 is called Marine Blue Graphite Pearl in the brochure but is also known as Sapphire Blue.

Yup - what Andrew said.....

....Mine is the same colour, but when having a touch-up pot mixed in Halfords, they just have the colour recorded as "Nissan pearl blue!" They did mix a good match though - from the colour code, irrespective of what it's called:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

So are you saying that if Halfords were to mix me 326 it would match, even though the same graded aerosol can is way off?

I am reading that the coding itself is a bit missleading as it can cover several shades.

Does my link sugesting mine is could be Super White not bear this out?

No mate - I'm not saying they'll get it right; just that the paint code is more important than whatever the actual colour is called!!

I was probably lucky in Halfords - and if you remember that the car might be up to 25 years old, weathering and other environmental conditions might have had an effect on the original paintwork in that time. So even the right colour match from the factory could be a shade or two different if applied to the car now. Which is why a good body-shop will have a colour analysing device, enabling them to mix paint to the right shade and appearance as the other panels on the car.

If you go into a proper paint shop they will tell you that in any given year of say 1989 they will tell you that there is four different shades of just that year.let alone the rest so first.dont go to halfords . Secondly use a credited paint supplier in your area anyone in the car trade will point you in the right direction. Go in armed with car year model make and paint code. The other thing to consider is by the time u buy some single pack paint compound wet and dry tap ect ect ect and also point out there will be issues later for the painter if you use single pack paint. Be warned. If not finished id rather turn up at a show with somthing in primmer than o dogy paint that going to cost you later. And on that point bu the time you buy all the stuff you need .it will deff work out cheaper to get it done pro. That said try. Express radiators... morelli...in your local ragg for paint supply. Good luck

I get what you are saying Richard, it's just that the original paint in contrast to the newly applied paint is far brighter.

Almost a pure white.

Not as if it has faded, which I could understand. My picture dose not really show the difference in shade.

I am not convinced as yet that my 326 code does not refer to Super White as the link, although it appears to be a US specification.

Looks like I will have to get it matched somehow. Could they match it if I took my petrol flap in as a sample?

Think you can get 326 from Nissan in spray form, will check tomorrow,

Imo you don't get a good match from any spray can, and with our age cars fading is a problem. You should have seen our body shop having its first attempt at dn1 green for my zed, was way off.

You'll have some competition for "worst zed in show" as mines going...lol

Nice one! Maybe we could park next to each other so as to share the attention.:lol:

I will be interested to hear how you get on with the Nissan spray paint though.

The wing almost looks like it's pearl white!

I would have thought that paint found in the door jams and on the body under the rear hatch is most likely

to be representative of the orginal Nissan 326 colour. It should have had the least exposure to the elements.

I know that when I had the rear bumper and spoiler painted the sprayer explained that although the colour

was TK3, he had correction codes to allow for age and weathering.

In addition to what Andrew says, white is really prone to bleaching and can be really noticeable. Paint matching and panel blending will be a necessity. The paint in your Halfords aerosol will be a mix of the original pigment weights, not what your paint is currently now after weathering and general discolouration.

Thanks Guy's

Your help and advice is very much appreciated.

I have taken it all on board and hope to have a second attempt next week.

All I have to do in the mean time is remove my first attempt!
