Replace cats on a 1996 series 4

My zed is a 1996 series 4 which for the mot to pass needs cats as I currently understand it.

I'm fairly sure my cats are fooked and having them out in the rain for the last 6 months has doomed them further.

So as I direct replacement is this what I need ?

In all honesty the chances of those ebay crap fitting properly are slim, and even less likely to help you pass emissions.

If you prefer to run with cats (llike I do) then find some off a breaker or go to a custom exhaust place and get some made up in stainless steel.

Also as a point of note, when my NA had decats in (95 series 4) the co2 levels would still have passed a post 95 test.

So is it worth the risk of decating the zed only to stumble at the mot when they say where's the cats.

Even if it passed the emissions test would it not fail on a technicality ?

Exactly, so many are weird parts or declared as later spec than they are, you telling the mot guy its supposed to a 96 but after research it isn't...I honestly think if you popped on a set of decats take it in as a grey import no one would question it. You could fit japspeed non turbo ones that way there's still a box, andits an easy swap to a set of cats if the issue arose.

The Nissan Fairlady is not on the mot database so should be tested as precat for emissions, I think this is regardless of year of manufacture.

As above, I also believe that as they do not appear on the database, they are to be tested through the best emission test route. (BET)

Net result is that they have to be under 3.5% co2 to pass.

Only tested at idle also I believe.

I had an issue getting my car mot'd this year. The guys said as it's a '93 it needs a cat test, he then asked if it had cats fitted from the factory, to which I replied, "you tell me?".

It seems to be a very grey area and very much open to the interpretation of the tester. It is my understanding that the rules state, if it's post '92 and had cats fitted from the factory, then it is due a cat test. However, as the import z32 is not on the database, there is no information on this, therefore it is due a non cat test. I managed to convince the tester this time (I've been using the same place for years but this was a new chap as my normal guy had left) but it was frustrating and I won't be taking it back to him. I believe Terry on here, who is a tester can explain his interpretation of the rules favourably.
