Was going over my zed with the bodyshop guy today, my front fenders are really rusted as is the tailgate,

Saw that zcentre sell vented fibreglass ones, are there any benefits to fitting them over having mine repaired?

And the glass will have to come out of the tailgate for paint, worth changing to a tub or plastic if I could find one?

The old z's my trackday toy, so looks aren't important but I hate to see rust lol...

Lukes Viper wings are a poor fit as received so need work to fit.

IMO they look a bit chavvy.

Tailgate tubs are a similar story IMO

Fair enough so no gains? Though the tub may have been lighter.

What about a poly window for the rear? If I can find one is it worth doing?

Have you held the stock wing? Incredibly light, I'd be surprised if saved enough weight to offset a mc Donald's. The tailgate as far as I'm aware isn't what many think it is...correct me if I'm wrong but it's only a section that pops into the oem tailgate, so again you won't save much and much like a tub it fills with water. ;) a Perspex rear window would be better, I'd go that route myself but don't want to loose the heated rear screen.

Was thinking the vents had a purpose on the fenders, will have mine repaired I think.

Will see if I can get a poly window for a lwb, lean do them for swb might see if they can do lwb ones too.

The fibreglass Viper wings are on mine and they actually fit very well as supplied by Luke at Zcentre, The front bumper was the thing that needed a bit of work to get it right. Maybe I was just lucky with the wings but they did not require any modification to get them to fit right

I used to have the tailgate 'tub' on my old blue Zed. It fits into the existing tailgate, in place of the glass. It had a small perspex window. I would imagine it is quite a bit lighter than the original glass but have never tried to weigh the two

It does not fill up with water, unless you happen to park on a hill facing downwards

Incidentally, the visibility out of the small rear perspex window on my old Zed was a lot better than out of my stock tailgate I have now!

Hope that helps.

Tub looks naff

Fit polycarb rear and strip out all the internal metal on tailgate like I did on Bobs car. Its as light as my CF one virtually.

Is there much weight to be lost gutting the tailgate bob? I have intentions to cut all the unnecessary metal out the tailgate. As far as I'm aware there isn't really any structural benefit to the tailgate itself. Ie binning it completely would make the overall chassis flex anymore. The only thing I would wish to do, which you probably had no interest in is retain all the plastic trim etc. So it's as light as possible but still looks stock.

Get one cut locally? Would I need to find a plastics specialist?

Got a nice new grinder the other day, might have to test it out...

It's definitely lighter and no significant loss of structural integrity but Petes is lighter I'm pretty sure :)

Probably best with a ceramic blade if you do it yourself

anyone who stocks polycarb will have cutting benches.

Front wings with vents are used allot by drifters... 3 reasons really

1. After all the lock mods, the wheel sits further out than stock - to keep it legal for the road and looking good at the track you need wider wings to compensate.

2. metal ones bend in when you have a bump - sharpe metal will pop a front tyre. for good grip most drifters run good rubber on the front (even on missile cars!)

3. The vents allow tyre fleck and scrub to fly out. Handy as it's nasty cleaning it off the inside after it cools lol. You scrub front tyres like crazy on some tracks (Birmingham wheels is a biggy, It nearly trashed a set of brand new Toyos!) :(

plus 4 - in many peoples opinion (mine inc) they look awesome and I guess they do save some weight (negligible if you ask me, Nissan wings are light)
