There's no hiding the fact that football excites me about as much gout, but seriously, why in the name of Greek sodomy is 'the sacking of a football manager' the main story of the international news in the UK today?

They're still pulling dead bodies out of the sunken ferry in South Korea, Putin's potential to start WW3 and nuclear concerns in North Korea all took a back seat this morning and most of the day on BBC and ITV news to make way for 'the sacking of a football coach'. I mean seriously!?!? WTF? How can the sacking of an overpaid manager for being crap at his job in a grossly overpaid sport be important enough to come above that!?

I couldn't agree more mate. That poor lad that was on fire on friday has died but it was only mentioned once, in between reports about David bloody Moyes...

There's a lot of peaches geldoff business on the papers front pages today.

Money makes the world go round, unfortunately. Manchester United is a global brand, I recently heard about a TV provider moaning about their lack of success costing them international business. They even had to hold off about the announcement due to the stock market.

....and this is what's wrong with professional football. I can't imagine various managers leaving other sporting institutions (more worthy) would cause such an annoying fuss.

As for Peaches Geldof, well someone actually died, so there is a point to that. But to have someone who was sacked for being crap at their job taking number 1 slot on the international news is complete horse shit. I agree, despite my dislike for football, it is a worthy story.....but above death and destruction worthy? Absolutely not.

the simple answer is that the [edited] amongst us think that kind of football shite it news so its put on for the thick lot

explained in my post

It's disgusting but yeah, Johnny average wants football and other such gossip news, real news is too hard hitting for them.

Moyes as failed at is job - this is correct but have some sympathy for the man as he'll only receive several millions in a pay off, so today he will be totally heartbroken and is obviously going to have to live on the breadline until he secures another job in football management.......which he undoubtably will.........................go figure :headvswal.

Dan, I have edited your post as I found it both insensitive and offensive. My 14 year old Nephew was declared "Brain dead" after a cycling accident while on holiday and my Mother has spent the last two years in a care home due to a currently undiagnosed brain problem..

I do understand what you are getting at but don't like the way you put it.

Is it that or is it more a case of the media telling us what we want ? I for one couldn't careless about celebrity gossip etc... So boring..

Whilst the Moyes story is big news in the football world, in the real world it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. Story should have either been at the end of the news or in the sports broadcasts..

no prob mate that kind of brain dead its very harsh I agree.

Indeed, save that for the awful tabloid press. They love that kinda stuff!

Totally agree. I do believe it's newsworthy (although not in the least bit interesting to me), but in terms of how 'important' it is compared to other real-world news, it should have slotted in waayyy down the line or in the sports section is. What's more amusing is, that 'if' Manchester United had won the FA Cup, it would not have been where this story is. How can the sacking of a manager be where it is. Really!

They print what sells, regardless of accuracy. Look at the recent story with the missing aircraft...gone quiet now that people arn't interested. I do like to read the papers and watch the news, however I do dislike the media. They are simply a bunch of scaremongering, money grabbing vultures.

Don't get me wrong freedom of the press can be positive. However the majority of it is more cash focused than liberational. look at the way things went with Diana, or Millie downer. Do you really think that the expense scandal was stumbled upon and exposed for justice? More likely some one stopped signing cheques for hush money, or an interested third party made a better offer for the story.

The media is a tool of politics and power, ie money. When a large proportion of the media is funded by or friendly with the fat cats it's ability to present real news, accurately is greatly reduced. Hence why we get stories about businesses front page and the graphic and tragic stories pushed to the back.

This is a democratic country, democracy means when the rich people make the rules up.

Now where's my tinfoil hat.

Indeed, save that for the awful tabloid press. They love that kinda stuff!

He ain't the first premier league manager to get the boot this year, read between those lines if you will.

I am sure you'll understand when I tell you that I am glad that I couldn't care less in finding out who else was sacked!

Lol your also probably glad that I deleted that useless information as soon as I absorbed it. I only remember use full stuff.

Doesn't Ian botham play cricket?

:tt2: Of all people Stevie boy i never thought you would take the bait

Steve's a football pundit...enough said!

Iff ide known that i would of put salt in his tea..LOL

Haha, curiosity killed the southerner. I tell you what if I had the faintest interest in football school would have been a damn site easier.

this is so true

What team does Ian Botham play in these days?

Ferrari

PMSL.... That just about sums up my own interest in the storyline too fellas....

And the reason it's all over the BBC? Why, there's been no other Conservative minister (allegedly) up to no good, that they can make a big deal about so far this week..... Hell, if that sort of thing ever happened (and of course it didn't, according to the BBC..) during the Blair years, then it would never have even made the little footnotes at the end of their news bulletins!!!

Richard:rofl:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
