Hey guys, from the time i got my 300zx some 5 years a go,i knew there was something not right, when ticking over the engine sounds fine but when i rev the car it seems to clog it self up,i watched this vid today

and tryed it for myself, low and behold cylinder 1 isnt firing 2 to 6 seem fine,So i thought it might be a coil pak so i removed it and the spark plug is sparking fine.Do you guys think the injector is fecked?and if so is it possible to get just one or should i get a 6.Any advise would be great.Cheers all:chef:

A simple way to check an injector, is to put a the tip of a long handles screwdriver on the injector cap and the handle on your ear, A good injector will have a really positive 'TICK' (try it on one you know is working) a bad injector will make no sound (you will hear some slight ticking through from the other injectors).

A final test is to check the resistance of the injector - A healthy one will be between 12 and 14 ohms.

Check out the 'Dremel method' of removing an injector - I had to do my second one yesterday, but makes life so much easier than removing the plenum.

good luck!

Cheers mate, thanks for the great advise, where did you get your injectors btw.Are stock 270cc?

Just check it's clean first off. They suffer quite badly from poor connections, often the injector connections are green and/or the connector is damaged.

Stock injectors are 370cc for tt models and smaller for NAs, could be 270cc for them.

So i cleaned the connections,as you said mate they were green, still no joy.Can i check the power connection from the car goin into the the injector, what should i be getting? Thanks

This can easly be checked with an inductive timing light...iff theres pulses the light will pick them up

EDIT....sorry thought it read ignition side..its getting late:yawn:

Ah ok no probs mate, also i just tryed the screwdriver trick on the injectors, there is positive ticking from all cylinders but nothing from cylinder 1

While you had the connector off, did you manage to check the resistance of the the injector with an ohm-meter? Should be between 12 and 14 ohms.

No mate i didnt,i dont have a multimeter to hand,i ordered one yesterday

It's worth checking the ECU end of the wiring loom as well. I had exactly the same problem, took everything apart, removed the injectors and none were faulty. Then put everything back together with new connectors and it worked perfectly. However, in the middle of all that I discovered a suspect broken wire going into the ECU plug !!!!

On the up side, the car had never run better than with all new connectors under the bonnet.

Guys so can i test the voltage goin into the injector plug from the car with the multimeter?what should i get getting(what i mean is taking the plug of the injector)

It's not something I've ever checked with a multimeter, not sure what you should expect. Hopefully

someone can help! I have only seen one checked with an inductive light tool.

You use the ohms reading, looks like a horseshoe. Take tge injector connector off and there's two little pins, measure the resistance between them a number between 12-14 should return.

Just to add, if you have a faulty one the resistance (ohms) value will be greater i.e. 30+ohms, a high resistance would suggest it is breaking down inside hence the fault.

Well that was a bit of a memory test for me, I'm thinking mail, what mail, when did I say I was going to mail you, who are you anyway ... and then I remembered the clock ! :)

I've been through this problem, mine was the injector was open circuit, had to re-new all connectors on the injectors & coil connectors, now running a lot smoother since they have been done.
