Guys as we all know the GTO boys have always looked at our cars with envy :) Anyway there are some good guys in their community and I have been discussing ten of the best with a few of them and I have challenged them to a team competition. Yes there will be some big power cars but mostly it will be normal guys with a few mods looking to have a bit of fun. We are thinking a maximum of 8 entries per team to count to the points and we feel that to help it work we will allow Saturday times to count on the 1/4 and top speed run. This means if you only want to do boot camp you will still be part of the team (not handling as the course changes each day).

We are also thinking each entry to donate £10 into the pot and the winning team gets all the money for the charity of their choice. There is also optional £5 head to head pairs if anyone wants it but we will need to clarify fully later. The GTOOC charity is 'justgiving' and we can choose ours if this forum doesn't currently support one. For myself I already support help for heroes but am happy to go along with the rest.

I will share this on my facebook page and will keep the page updated with details.

Have a good think about this guys it's an opportunity to try your hand at 3 disciplines for very little money and see which of our cars is the best all rounder. I often see people suggesting that the zed gets very little respect from the rest of the community and this is a chance to show them how good this car can be. I really do think it will be a great weekend if we can get a decent team together. Yes I will be focussing on doing well but this will help to make it fun as well.

I will be there for the full weekend and can sort out details with Dave Naxton. I would truly like this to work and am more than happy to arrange the event however I would not be able to provide much support on the day. I think we could set up a team area to compete with the best so I am confident we can make it a brilliant weekend.

Yes it's early but can you start thinking about it now and any feedback/offers of help/entries will be appreciated.

nice video. For corner balance there are many things you can do to move it from front to rear through damper settings, anti roll bar, and tire pressures. You need to stiffen the rear or soften the front to dial out the understeer

That's what I thought, its pretty much at max adjustment on damping and front and rear arbs are set to stiff. I perhaps could soften the front arb but really like the more positive nose the stiffer setting gave me. I have never fiddled with pre load but ride height I have the tail in the air nose on the ground.

What I will try then, I will stiffen the nose 7 clicks see if it's too soft then go the other way if it makes it worse.

Tyre pressures, drop a couple of psi in the fronts? Give it some more maleability a bit more bite? Is that how it works? If they're softer they will move more the carcass will warm up quicker that sort of thing? But it will dull response won't it?

I think I will set the pressures at about 28 front 32 rear cold and hope my rear K sports drag the CofG and brake bias back a bit.

I hate understeer :)

But what are you changing your settings for? Handling or drag? Toe in the front wheels will help straight line stability (good for Drag) but will provoke more understeer. Toe out will reduce straight line but will reduce understeer. I go for toe out to reduce understeer and accept some loss of straightline stability. Then throw in a bit of negative camber it starts getting a bit complicated.

Now where's that book about real world 300ZX racing????

I hate understeer :)

The car launched arrow straight so well done to the diff and the chassis.

The alignment is...

Zero toe front and rear

2 degrees negative camber all round

9 degrees caster

For drag I was very happy with it's stability and on the road the car is very solid. I was just trying to get it totally 50 50 in ballance front to back. It was pretty much there but now initial turn in is good, just before the apex with about 100 degrees of lock on it starts to feel reluctant to tighten it's path and the response to steering input starts to fall off a cliff as it aproaches soft understeer, and you need throttle or lift off or something to push past that and to rotate the car.

Previously as you got to it's limit the car felt up on it's toes and keen to rotate into the turn so you could start winding lock off and cracking the throttle out of the turn pretty much steering wheel straight from apex to exit. Now it has that soft nose push at mid corner.

I will drop front pressures slightly and add just a tad in the rear, that will also fractionally shift the weight forward too.

I am wrong, I want more pressure in the front to increase the response of the nose and whip it into the apex.

This is so difficult as at a sprint like TOTB or on the road you never get the tyres properly hot so the idea of low pressure fronts to get them hot and get some grip going is irrelevant.

OK. I suggest the following for fast driving will work for track and road plus a bit of drag.

Front 2 degree negative camber.

Rear 1.5 degree negative camber.

Front toe out 5 minutes

Rear toe neutral.

Well i will let you know as those will be my setting this coming weekend and I will be hitting a large piece of concrete later to try it out for handling to :)

cool vid tom nice to a z getting a good spanking instead if just sitting like a garage queen well done I like it

hi tom did you say in your vid that from a standing start you hit o to 60 in 2 point somthing secs. im sure you ment something else. but that said its good to practice, looking good bud.

 I wish 60 feet mate I measured it with a tape :ninja:

I wasn't timing the 0-60 but it was the time it takes to read this v v v

"Screech! Urgh... Boooooost! Whatchuuuum! Second go! Oooooh bloody hell Brake!"

That sort of long :)

I just got told off by a wing commander so I am sure no one has, but any copies of that footage that may have been made, please delete them. There should be no traces anywhere.

If you want any posts removed Tom let me know mate. I remember getting told of for racing down Ballykelly runway bloody MP's spoil all the fun lol

Was it a standing up or sitting down talking to? My ones were always standing....

Oh, those were the days!

Thanks Gary, the source material is gone so the links will be dead thank you.

It wasn't unsafe, we had 4 people looking out for the bird scarer or runway sweeper, otherwise the airfield was closed. It was about 10pm on a Friday and the car got a pre drag inspection. No harm was done.

All the same, delete the video, it never happened :)

It was heels together back straight... but on the phone!

Paid, Bob whats the crack with support vehicles? Can you just bring one like last year?

Tom, good stuff. What clutch you running?

A competition clutch 6 puck, and the XTD light flywheel. I have improved the understeer by the way, I stiffened the front suspension, I think I had slowly (a click at a time over months of "a bit softer") dropped off the bottom of the performance zone for the front suspension.

Great stuff! And then there were four :-)

One genuine support car per entry no problem.

Sadly Neil who was going to join has blown 3rd on his gearbox. Been on the edge of that for a while with that power I imagine. So unless be can get a replacement fited in time he won't be competing but will be at the event.

I'll be getting there for 9am. Know that's a bit late but best I can do.

Cheers

Danny

That's a shame. C'mon guys we need another one to register to make a team. Only three weeks to go and until we get the full team of 5 entered I can't give the GTO guys any lip :) not only that I would like to to let the TOTB organisers we are confirmed and start making any arrangements regarding a nice spot to set up.

I would love to register, just dont think im going to be ready in time.....

Shouldn't be a problem at all, if mapping is all that is left to do.

You should see the list of jobs mine requires before TOTB. Monumental task :wack:

Plus, the back up Pulsar needs a clutch swap in order to handle 2 bar. Just so I can get utterly destroyed by all in the AWD class.

I do have pit crew & support vehicle ready though

Couple of bits Noel... weve had some setbacks havent we. darent build my hopes up until it is mapped and you and Jim give it a clear bill of health...

We can have a natter when Im down if thats okay? can register quickly if needed.. not driven the car hard in 2 years so could be like Mr Bean.. pmsl...

Yeah, it's been quite a journey to say the least. On the homestretch now though :)

Well the GTO boys are running scared and now it seems we might be running against the Eurospec Race Team as well lol. We now hold the moral high ground and I don't mind kicking a bit of GTR and Evo butt (or not as the case may be lol)
