Is there a difference in the early steering wheels and the 96 steering wheel. Mine car has an aftermarket steering wheel and going to put it back to factory original Some idiot put a push button on the left had side of the steering column cowling where there seems to be a hole for another stalk. I assume this was taken off. It must be for the cruise control as I cant see any functions for it. The car is a 96 lwb.. thanks (any photos would be great)

96 would have an airbag steering wheel which the early models didn't have, later models did have a cruise stalk but I'm not sure which side it is, probably the left where the hole is.

Early cars are 3 spoke design with no airbag.

Airbag wheel (as shown above) was optional from late '92 and standard from late '94.

Left hand side like on mine.....I retro fitted it. LHD vehicles have CC and indicator stalks the other way around.

that's a big help, now to find the correct steering wheel and stalk. The only thing is I don't seem to have the cruise control switch on the right hand pod? Will I need a garage to fit the airbag or is it just reconnect and the sensors read its reactivated?

Anyone got either of above that they would like some cash in place of lol

As Gary has said. Cruise was an option. Most of the later-spec cars didn't come with it. Installing it is a mission! You'd know if you had it. A, the button would be there, B, you'd already have a stalk there and C, you'd have another cable running to the throttles. There's probably a blank in your column shroud if it is a 96 model.

exactly, that's all that's there, so no cruise. just need a nice wheel now, mine is crappie

That's really strange that you say you have no cruise. Regardless of whether you have an aftermarket steering wheel, you should have the stalk there on a 96 car if it came equipped with cruise control. I am wondering why the stalk is not there. Have you got any detailed photos of the car?

I've re-read everything. It appears you have no cruise control components at all. I wouldn't attempt to install it. It'll involve taking apart the loom as it's hard-wired into it.

now that's nice, where did you get the wheel Gary

Bought it a few years ago Derek (link below) also had to get the correct boss so hicass would still work.

hi, seems to be nothing there at all. going to remove the surround cowls and have a good look as the button that operates the horns is taped into the hole on the left

great Gary you kept the link, it a nice wheel. going to consider getting similar if you don't mind

Yeah. Likelihood is, you have no CC. Those wires will have been pulled from the slip-ring. You might need to either fit a new slip ring, or re-attach the wires if you have enough of them to do so.

thanks- hopefully not getting into a handling with it. If its not there, not the end of the world.

Thanks dude. I prefer the older type Momo wheels. They're not as fussy in design and more in-keeping. :)
