After getting badly cut up 3 times in the last 24 hours I am seriously considering fitting Daytime Running led lights!

Now I know that there are a lot of crap drivers out there. (I should know I've probably let loads loose on the road :whistling:), but I'm starting to think that the combination of my low and dark coloured car is a contributing factor.

The latest incident involved an LGV changing lanes and nearly running over the top of my bonnet!

Most led running lights look nasty to me although I quite like the low ones on the Merc C Class.

Has anyone successfully fitted any? May have to bite the bullet and take safety over looks.

i have these fitted really low and you cant miss them from the front, really brite and low like the merc. and i wired them up as side lights. cool.

Why don't you just use the side lights?

because the standerd lights on a zed r rubbish and need to updated to look more modern and fresh and clean. bet theres not many zeds out there now of whom drive at night with the origanal kit.

I have them on my bright red DS3. Thick idiots still pull out in front of me, I think they will look a bit tacky on a zed.

r you telling me that you have the origanal bulbs in your car, cas were im sitting it looks like you have brighter bulbs than standerd in your car

My side lights look like they're being run off a 6 volt battery.

I quite like the idea of bright, low wattage lights.

Never had anyone cut me up in the Z, but I do sometimes put my headlights on when on the motorway. I agree with your comments on daytime running lights. I personally don't like them and I think they look really cheesy when fitted to an older car like a Z32.

Yeh you're probably right. It just seems to be happen more often in the Z than in any other car I drive.

Must just be my bad driving then :shifty:

I agree with you on the looks, although they look fine to me on modded cars like Spin Doctors'.

Mine's still standard'ish so I might look at doing something with the fog light housing as my side lights have been moved to the indicators.

Yes, I'm with you on this one. Running lights are and can be a good idea if kept in keeping with the era the car was made, in the Zeds case bulbs. LED' s IMO are for cars that are lot newer. Only my opinion each to there own!

I always drive with my lights on. The first thing I do in the zed after turning the engine on is turn on the lights. I think DRL should be made a legal requirement in the UK as it is in many European countries.

I do also have led boards in my for lamp housing which you could class as DRL, they were a prototype from Zedwizz @ autoresto, there are some pics on here but tbh, I'd say you'd be better off just turning on your lights all the time.

DRL have been mandatory in the US for years now, Z32s and older cars just don't have garish LED strips. They look ok on cars designed with it, but not on older vehicles. I saw some cable-tied to an Austin Montego the other day. I did laugh.

I do have a bit of an issue with DRLs over here though. Most new cars have a dash illumination, even when the headlights are off. I've lost track of the amount of people I see driving around with their ultra-bright LED DRLs on, thinking their headlights are on....at night or in shit weather....and therefore have no rear illumination and appear oblivious to that fact.

New cars are fitted with a relay to turn off LED DRl's when headlights are turned on. Unfortunately some drivers could do with a relay in their heads to remember to turn them on in the first place. Usually the same ones who drive around with fog lights on for weeks.

I like that! Goes well with the Hid's.

My conversion may be more basic :)

i personley dont like the modern led strip/ bolt on leds but in many modern cars they are now standerd. like the merc bright and low down. i on the the other hand think unless you can use leds in the origanal lights then please, anyone on here unless you have a kit , please dont put leds straped to an a origanal car cas that would look shrrt.

What are you thinking of doing?

think the front fogs are pretty useless and the side lights have already been moved so may convert whole housing to DRL's. Not really thought it through properly yet.

Mine can either fill up the housing or have the little crosshair type pattern.

Who'd u pinch them off?

If you're on about my zed, then they were HID. Not DRL however my zed is no long gone and I have a Citroen DS3, it has DRL and they suit the car. A zed however, I'm still not sure. Although yours are nice and small and in a decent place and Joely P has done a decent job aswell. But I'm still not sold on them going on an older car.

Yup....

I can see the safety aspect of DRLs - it does make sense - but I am not keen on the LED additions to new cars either.... Simple, LED bulbs inserted into the sidelights; and permanently on whilst driving (like old Volvos in the 70s and 80s) would do the job....

...And just like Si, I usually drive with headlamps on, on the motorway (especially in the Merc, given it's colour) so that people can see me earlier at whatever speed I might be travelling. However that still does not stop Mr Beige-Polyester from pulling out in front of me in his bloody people carrier at 72mph; no matter what speed I might be approaching at.....:nono:

Richard:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

My DRLs always cause a lot of interest and rather than looking crap on an old car as some feel, I actually think they make it look more modern

I do know what you mean about them being so bright you could forget to turn your headlights on lol

Actually they dim when sidelights/headilights are on
