Is there a write up for removing a/c?

I've looked everywhere but with no luck.

I know removing something doesn't take much technical skill but I'm just wondering about access...

I assume I need to get under the car to remove the compressor. Can this be done parked half on a high kerb as right now that's my only option when it comes to getting under my car.

I would say no to the kerb access. You need the front in the air so you can get to the rear compressor bolt. I would put it up on axle stands mate. You will be able to figure it out much easier.

I'm a small guy myself and I've managed bits before with the kerb method. You'd be surprised how far I can get under it, lol. So would you say impossible like this or just very tricky?

Is it degassed already? The gas Is nasty stuff. I deleted mine with the engine out so it's hard to advise. I recon the worst bits will be unhooking all the tubes. How far do you want to go delete wise? I've pulled everything firewall forward off the car.

Yeah, gas all gone. I'd be leaving cab side in place and just cut the pipes at the firewall. I'll have a go this weekend if it's not raining. Annoyingly I'm working at a garage today and right in front of me is 10 axle stands!

A Nissan garage no less! lol

At the firewall are two nuts where the pipes and connected in a compression joint. So no need to cut. With your battery out you will see it. To remove the ac rad and compressor will likely mean removing the water rad and anti roll bar btw.

Argh! That damn compressor! I got it all stripped out except the compressor. Can't get at that top rear bolt! Argh!!

That is all.

If I've got any enthusiasm to tackle it tomorrow I will. Got all sorts of other bits I have to get done before the weekend's out.

Use a crow's foot spanner on an extension bar.

Is that speaking from personal experience or just an idea?

Personal experience matey. I bought a cheap set from ebay for about a tenner and used a flexible 3/8th extension. It's still a PITA but it's the easiest way to sort it.

Its a fairly common practice as its only way to remove the engine without having to re-gas the AC. Unfortunately I have no memory of doing it, must of to pull the block as iirc it was sat on the sub frame. Its likely that gaz did that for me when I wasn't about. (my car was in his lock up when we pulled the block and he lots of bits for me when he had the spare time)

Good write-up...... But I'm with Gary on keeping it Dave!

If you plan on racing the car, then fair enough. But if I was buying a high-spec GT car, even a 25 year old one, I'd expect it to have AC. But I guess I am too late saying that now.....:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Too late, mwahaha! Never used it, never even had gas in it and I'm more about taking the t-tops off when it's hot and sunny.

Wouldn't even dream of selling it anyways. ;-)

It frees up a lot if space getting rid of the aircon.

I know - and the engine bay could certainly use that - but I'm all for sitting in icy coolness come summertime....:biggrin:

Same! Not just that, but AC is great for getting rid of steamy windows. Unless I had a track-car, I'd see it completely as a 'de-specifying' activity. 2 things I'd never remove = AC and CC!!! :)

Gone so far;

AC, CC, PRV, AIV, EGR, CaC

Still to delete;

Hicas(pos)

Still to relocate;

Fuse/relay boxes, battery, fuel filter, boost sensor think that's it lol. Oh and Pcv relocate not delete. One simple ass engine bay by the time I'm done.

Main fuse/relay is going where the ac compressor was. Little box dunno yet probably in the old Aiv spot.

Why did you remove CC Steve? Hardly worth it! Next you'll be deleting the mirrors and wipers! lol

Lol cos there's no motorways in Dorset. Every time is used it some bell end would merge in front and slow me down. Waste of time. It was ugly and well in my way. Rear wiper and motor and hatch weight won't last much longer I doubt lol. I forgot the PAS pot is being moved too.
