VG30DETT into one of these?

Now most people know I don't approve of most engine conversions (there are honourable exceptions like those Nissan V8 ones) but putting a VG30DETT into one of these could be most amusing as well as make LHR into town much faster for tourists!

New Black Cab for London

Featured Replies

Great idea - and a big two fingers to the congestion charge as well....

Beats the weedy little 1.6 petrol that Nissan will be fitting in it. Still, good to see Nissan building the Taxi - providing it is made in Sunderland, that is.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

We got the nv200s at work. They suck! Horrible things to drive and way too small for an electrician but the boss wouldn't listen cos they're cheap as chips.

Same as the NYC cab, albeit with a different nose cone. FWD too, so mounting a V6 engine might be hard, you'd need to find a suitable gearbox and make sure it had the right amount of space.

1.6 petrol into that - as if the current London taxi wasn't slow enough....interesting to note that that the mentality is to return to petrol power. If the capital had these and ALL buses were powered either by LNG, hybrid or electric, it would make for a pleasant break to the smog ridden stench of London streets thanks to all the diesel fumes.

It is a shame that Manganese Bronze went into administration and subsequently sold to Chinese interests. Government rarely step in to aid UK companies - quite pathetic really.

At least the "iconic" shape is still recognizable. Just check out the door handles too!

Project 1547 - Out of the Blue

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

Haha! Didn't the older TX2 and 3 use a variant of a really lower powered Nissan Diesel engine? *scurries away to go and check*

You took too long...so I checked instead.

The TX1 used a Nissan 2.7 litre, I4 diesel engine

The TX2 used a Ford 2.4 litre Dura-Torq I4 turbodiesel engine.

The TX3 never existed

The TX4 uses a VM Motori R 425 DOHC diesel engine

Thats enough riveting information for today.

Because it was so exciting, I forgot all about it! Indeed, wasn't that engine from the Serena people carrier? The one that takes 19 seconds to get to 60?

**JUST CHECKED** Even slower - 27.8 seconds. It should been illegal!

Auto Express once named the Serena as the slowest passenger car in the benchmark 0-60 mph (now 62 mph) test, with the 2.3 diesel version (added in the mid 1990s) taking 27.8 seconds to reach that speed.

Would actually love to drive one - I've never driven a car that slow! It would be quite an eye opener.

Your dream to drive one was my reality about 2 months ago. Went to collect an elderly customers Serena from Port Talbot! I had driven one before however so knew what to expect!!

Was it the diesel or petrol version? Believe there were a 1.6 and 2.0 petrol version also. How bad DID it feel?!?!?!

You'll be pleased to hear it was the diesel version on both occasions. Pretty sure I was driving so slowly I slipped into the past a bit
