Well it looks to me like anyone with a well loved original Z or with "tasteful" modifications will have to sigh again as like me you may be thinking maybe it's just a sign of the times or as I often think. What is it with a lot of Z owners these days?

I seem to see more:

Interiors ruined with PVC film crap.

tasteless bloody stickers relating to manufacturers of performance parts that the cars have never even seen a sniff of.

Day glow accents

Vent shapes stuck on for no practical reason to wings and bonnets

Bloody Led under car lights or worse in car/ headlight strips from eBay that are poorly fitted.

massive base boom box things thrown into the boot any old way.

OTT tints.

massive stripes banged on like a terradactly has just dropped one as it flew over the car.

My favourite being downgrading to some cheap effort 4 hole ferrari knock off rear lights.

Don't get me started on stance, poorly selected wheel size and space etc.

Yes maybe I am going a bit OTT and it's everyone's choice sure.

Yes the Z is a lot of fun for not a lot of cash but it does annoy me somewhat that it seems to be ever attracting increasing numbers of upgraders from the Punto and Saxo evolution.

Surely I am not alone in this opinion. Surely for prospective buyers too a heads up that with a little research they will see that a highly modified Z can look stock but so much better and that less can look a whole lot more. There are no end of members and ex members cars pictures on here that look far better than some trash look at me upgrades.

People look at a well looked after smart stock looking Z and think class. They look at a tarted up old tired example and just think Shed!

Less is often more and even a clean detailed stock Z maybe only with a nice set of alloys can look much better than a body kitted "custom" Z.

Moan over. I know nothing will change but unless someone raises a point to discuss then it never will right. What additions do you most hate to see on a Z? Apart from the few cock drivers out there that would tattoo nutter to their foreheads because they can!

I understand its a matter of taste. Maybe part of my annoyance I have to say it is also where I live. In and around Birmingham there are still quite a few "poor" Z cars (some really nice ones too I may add). There are a few that I have also seen being ragged around less desirable areas, sad as you just know they will be in the scrap yard soon as the owners will not look after them, something will go. Their so called mechanic mate wont be able to fix it or they just wont pay the going rate for a decent fix and the car is soon on a sorn after sitting outside in the street for a bit and then before you know it another Z off to the scrap yard.

There are good and bad sides to this tale ie more spare parts and less chavved up Z's on the road sure.

Edit: The only real big look change mod that I must say I have really liked in the past was a time when a guy in Mexico or somewhere like that fabricated a new rear bumper that never got exported outside of his close contacts as I believe a previous front bumper he had done was "copied". Anyone have a pic of that white SWB Z with that very good looking rear bumper made by the guy in South America? If someone can post a pic or link up to it then tell me what do you think? I say big thumbs up and that's really not a stock look! :)

I believe its the twinZdesign one! Type 2 rear bumper with integrated diffuser. Looks great from the photos and video I have seen on a white Z but never seen one in the flesh.

Yes search for the Twinz group by by Mark Derby and all the pics are there :thumbup1:

I love the clean lines of the zed, especially the OEM front wings, the unique rear lights, and the stance when lowered a tad on correctly fitting wheels.

but I'm sorry, the tssh of a dump valve on a Sunday morning drive is my vice. It doesn't half make a little smile appear!

I used to be a fan of the over the top stuff but not so much now, but at the same time never been a fan of a stock zed either. everyone has there own tastes.

would be a very boring place if we all went the same direction with our cars. good or bad it gives us something to talk about. plus I used to love posting things up that I done to the car especially if it annoyed si lol

And i do what i want with my car :) and yes i have big spoiler and dump valves :)

Good on you fella

IMHO there is nothing more boring than a line up of any car at events that all look the same except for different colour

How many on here have been to an event and there seemed to be millions of Subarus all lined up and have Said bloody hell they all look the same

Stock, slightly modified,Highly Modified doesn't matter what, the car belongs to the person who owns it and they love the way it looks and as such no one should slag of any car

I totally agree with the sentiments, especially when the modification shopping list only consists of 'off the shelf Halfrauds' but, there are a few of us on here that obviously love the ZED but would like something.........different. As an engineer I would soon find myself extremely bored (as I am with my daily car) if all I done was polished the car. I love working on it and where possible, modifying it, be it engine, suspension or other small (in my mind) improvements.

The first time I saw a ZED was at the showroom when my dad picked up his new 100nx. Wow, now that is a car I remember thinking and from then on I was in love.

I've always loved 90% of the car's appearance but for me there's a few subtleties that I've always thought........'If only nissan had designed it like........?????'

The motorsport and show scenes have always encouraged modifications. The motorsport obviously for power and control and the show scenes up to now have always been about the 'boom' of your sound system or the most impressive body kit and paint job. Look at the Beast for example, draws the biggest crowd at the ZED shows I've been to.

It's all personal taste, circumstance and cash flow. My first ZED was a tricked out SE Nissan car and I still love the look of it.

How many of us have a truly standard car? No new wheels, no new stereo, no engine upgrades, no changing the paint scheme.....la di da???

If it wasn't for those improvements/modifications half of us on here would be bored!

But as previously said, hopefully the stick on mod days are over.

To the eye is one thing. That's exactly why I put the tape measure on it.

225 on left is 218mm wide at the sidewall and has wear-to-wear tread of 199mm

245 on right is 221mm wide at the sidewall and has wear-to-wear tread of 197mm

They were both correctly inflated, both Bridgestone S-02 (might have been S-03 but they were botht the same) and both measured by me with the same tape measure at the same time in the same place. If you read the thread, AndyP also measured his Toyo Proxes and their tread wasn't different (225 vs 245) and also Trevz measured his - same result.

So we have three people who actually measured their tyres and found 245s NOT wider - as against "everyone knows" and "they look" wider. Me - I prefer the evidence of the tape measure as opposed to one of the many Zed urban myths.

Thats a very strange one then...the wider rim must pull the sidewalls out giving the illusion of fatter

The way I see it, it is my car and I will do with it as I want, as a previous post has stated ' otherwise all the cars would be the same'. I have dump valves and the big spolier, would I want it different just to please the majority of Zed drivers, definatley not. I thought this is the whole idea of modifing your own car as it is 'yours' and you can do what you want to it. Sorry for the rant, just blowing off steam, lol.

Hope not mate :scared:

I bet most cars still modified they way they are is due to owners not being able to afford to put them how they want it, but still want a taste of the zed.

Not at all, each to their own. You mean "just blowing off air" don't you?

Sorry mate but theres no way all the 245 tires ive ever run on a UK rear are the same as a 225....the UK rear size is the fitment for a Porche 928 and same again they are nothing like to the eye as a jap front tire on a 225. Is that tape measure a joke shop model:biggrin:

dont they have different profiles, would that make a difference to how wide they are or look.

But surely they should be wider lol...

When I first got the Zed, I had Toyo T1-S tyres fitted to the stock UK 8.5"/9.5" wheels. Although they were 225/50 and 245/45 16",

the actual tread widths were almost the same. You can see in the photo how the rears looked stretched. I wasn't very impressed

to say the least.
