Featured Replies

Not heard of it myself Dan.....

.....And if there is someone the chances are, like anything else in the UK, it will be prohibitively expensive!!! Probably cheaper to just buy a new set of wheels.....!!

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

mite of known all the good stuff is us side you cant get anything done in the uk a real lack of skilled trades that's for sure

You're talking about re-banding?

Generally, I'd avoid doing it on OEM wheels as they're cast. Welding up a crack is on the cusp really, but re-banding will weaken the material around the point at which it is welded. I think it's actually illegal which is why it's not done over here. I know some folks in the US do it, but I personally wouldn't.

One thing I've ALWAYS wanted to see done however....and 'Image' wheels might be able to do this is to use the stock Z32 wheel, machine the rims off and use the face as a custom split rim. I'd probably use front Z32 wheels, so you can get a nice aggressive dish at the rear. A lot of 2 and 3 piece wheels use cast centres with forged rims.

I have rays forged wheels but wanted to widen the rear a little its a 8.5j I have 245 on the rear but its a little small I have some 265 am going to fit and see how its looks

I would say give Image wheels a bell, they know their stuff!

Thats great idea

For the cost, you're better off getting new rim sections made up. TBH, you're probably better off selling them and looking for some with a more aggressive setup.

i know just like the wheels to much

I'd love it if some one made the oem wheels but bigger. I love the design but they're sooo small. A 16" wheel on a car this size and design isn't right by today's standard.

I you measure the centre face on a lot of split rims or something like an 18" wheel, you'll see that the face is about a 16" and the rest of the diameter is made up of the rim and its shoulders. I think you could turn a stock wheel into an 18" wheel if you turned it into a 3 piece wheel.

Considering it....did a shitty mock-up on MS paint. Gives you an idea. I'd go with NA wheels as a donor as you can get a deeper dish. Not sure if you could use a machined wheel face or whether they'd take moulds of the wheel face. These would sell like hot cakes in the US. It would effectively turn the wheel from a 16" wheel to an 18" wheel with a much more aggressive offset.

....the idea was spawned from this YEARS ago. Whilst the design themselves is slightly different from the factory Lotus Carlton/Omega wheels, the concept idea had a splitrim version on it.

....plus that idea was resurrected when a friend of mine in the US managed to get his grubby mits on these.

These wheels are the only ones in the world; Nissan commissioned Gemballa to make a wheel that was originally to be intended as a dealer-fit option on the special edition 96 cars which were only sold in the US under a limited run. In the event, it never happened, but those who know their wheels know Gemballa who build wheels for Porsche. These were designed as a spin (excuse the pun) on the OEM wheel. I've driven this car both as an NA and a TT and the specs are perfect. The car sits nicely, the ride is good and of course, no rubbing.

Pretty much as it currently sits...

I would love a set like that Si it just looks so right being a deeper dish 18" wheel. I want.

Might make a few enquiries. I suspect cost to be prohibitive, but it would be interesting to see what could be done. What I really need is a stock wheel I can hack up.

I think the only other consideration would be that stock wheels have limited space between the back face and the caliper - a lot of people run larger calipers which could make contact, saying that a lot of contact/space issues are due to the rim wall being so small, not sure how much 'wider' calipers get when you start going above the 350z upgrade route.

I've made contact with Image wheels and sent them some information. I also came across this. Some dude with a MK1 Scirocco had those done to his wheels. The conversion turns 13" wheels to 15"

Gives you an idea of the things people have done. Some of these are bit more extreme (silly stances etc) - but you get the idea.

I would absolutely LOVE to see this conversion done to a Z32.

I'm guessing expensive, can you imagine the possibilities. A set of 17" fronts and 19" rears with the correct offsets 11" rears dirt loads of dish :)

I think that'll make it look too much like this....

mqdefault.jpg

Widths is where it's at. Converting the stock 16" wheels will effectively move them up to 18" which is pretty good and perfect especially for shorties. You could then turn the rears to a nice fat 10" with a nice deep dish. I'd probably try and get near the known widths and sizes though, so 8.5" front with a 20-25 offset and a 9.5" rear with a 30-35 offset. If the stock wheels were those offsets, it would solve half the problem, but if they were also 18", then they'd look sterling! OEM+ is a good look IMO.

As for the cost, it won't be cheap. But with these guys being in Poland, it won't be as expensive as having them done here or in Germany (found another place there). They're based in Poznan, I might fly over one weekend to have a chat with the guys there.

Lol it wouldn't be quite that dramatic Si, yeah oem + is what I want to achieve with my car. Which is a lanky base like your own. :)

Right then! I've made the inquiry. Hoping they might be able to bump the stock Z32 wheel size to a 19" wheel. I estimate that it will cost between £500-£1000 per wheel, but I have to see whether it's possible.

Seriously, how cool are these Opel/Vauxhall wheels!
