I was sent some 99 tail copies to repair and boy they were rough on arrival so I experimented with some new ideas/products.

Turned out rather well methinks, there was a lot of work as I had to practically start from scratch, one of the backs was creamy and the other white inside so these had both needed to be sprayed gloss white and baked .

Here they are alongside some genuine units...

I must admit I'm struggling looking at them again in that above pic, the one on the very right is genuine for sure .

This next pic as one of each, matching pair you could say !! For the first time I chrome wrapped the inserts to mimic.

And finally a close up piccy, hope you like, thought I'd share :thumbup1:.

Very good! I can tell the difference though, quite easily, but they are infinitely better than just replacing the lower sections.

Looking good, I'll be sending you mine soon, just bought a passenger side rear light.

chrome wrapped? everyone is thinking, or is that just me.

Don't quite follow........everyone is thinking 'what's that' ?

Well just behind the outer lined lenses there is an insert and this on the genuine ones is completely in chrome, so I had a go at it myself on the set you see, couple this with a clear diffuser I used that matches the red one I would say I make the best copies out there :tt2:.

Look spot on, the only difference is where the bulb sits. That little square bit is no longer worth £200 more

The little square does as you would expect diffuse very well, you can see where the amber bulb is though even on the genuine units, you can imagine on my copies the bulb position is more obvious but is perfectly fine and does light up the full indicator chamber the same as the OEM :thumbup1:.

I did try some of those chrome capped 21w amber bulbs thinking they might diffuse better but found these just the same as the standard amber coloured ones.

The amber OEM lenses have all got a built in square area that is different, however on some there is an extra clear square on the inside, this can be cut off and re used.

The next set I do will have the square on as it is needed to 'hide' the bulb, I have noticed on the bench I can either use the cut off one I mention above or just double up with a square piece of my new bottom clear lens as both work just as good as each other.

however on some there is an extra clear square on the inside, this can be cut off and re used.

bingo... exactly what I used... but like you say not on all of them... :)

All fakes, if you look the square diffuser as been added to the indicator lens .

The 300ZX is not illuminated in this pic, a strong red when off just like facelift spec :thumbup1:.

FYI, customer requests that the tails are not squeezed back together so in this pic just offered together, he is fitting some leds.
