The reason i asked is because i think its just holding in heat for no extra reason.yes?

Is that why you say remove?

Wasn't there something about it blistering your paint? or did I just dream it?....

I removed mine for repaint, damaged it in the process and have been hunting around for a good replacement since, so far, I haven't found one that is good enough to fit, but as a result, I've not had one fitted. My paint is new, so more sensitive to temperature, added with 40 degree heat in the south of France - no blistering. Maybe it will over time, but so far, so good.

Not good though as I want the insulation back on it! I'll find a tidy one some day. :)

Nope....and again, this is another reason why bonnet vents are pointless. The Z32 engine bay is designed as a low-pressure area with seals around it. As you drive along, the hot air gets pulled out from the bottom of the engine bay area. The insulation is there more to do with sound deadening.

I personally wouldn't remove it if it's already on there. I fully intend on refitting mine when I can find a tidy one. I also think it looks a little better WITH one. Looks a little poverty-spec without.

The main reason for the hood "insulation" is for fire supression in the engine bay. Either the plastic fixtures melt or the hood

binder material burns off and the hood drops down and acts as a fire blanket to smother the flames. It is not intended to

put the fire out but rather delay its progess and give the occupants of the car more time to escape. The hood itself is made from

fire resistant fibres. How much time is another matter, but it is primarily there for that purpose.
