I was discussing this with a friend the other day (obviously it was a very quiet moment with nothing much exciting to talk about!! lol)

OK so there are very rare cars around, and some of these were because they were one-offs, very small productions runs, or very limited market cars in the first place

But out of all these mass produced cars we all remember (depending on your age) from the 60's 70's 80's and even later.... are there any models now that are so rare they are actually extinct (there are none left on the road at all)?

Google didn't help much (or perhaps I was searching the wrong terms) I just found rare one-off or supercars. I'm thinking cars which were once a commonplace sight (not like a specific variant of a model like Granada GXL1.6i or some such) but just a specific model

We couldn't make up our minds.

Rich

I would seriously love a Droopsnoot Firenza!-rare as hens teeth, although there is an active club, you never see the cars come up for sale...................

I remember racing them in my Capri but could never keep up on the country roads. Still a big following for them over here and they now fetch big money. Another friend of mine had a Hillman Avenger Tiger but thats probably before most members time lol.

My mother's side of the family is Hungarian and whenever we went over there when it was still a communist state (in the late 80s/and early 90s), all you'd see on the roads were Wartburgs, Ladas, Skodas, Trabants and all manner of nasty hateful eastern bloc / Russian nasties. Quite different over there now though, although you still see some of them about.

I remember plenty of them as a kid..followed by 200yds of blue smoke churning out from its 2 stroke engines:biggrin:

Never :)

Not strictly true. The car you posted up was a 968 with a top speed of........wait for it....75 whole miles per hour! There is no 0-60 time listed, probably because the battery would expire in the stop watch before it ever hit 60, but it 'could' do 75! The later version could hit 81mph and there is a record of a 0-60 time. It's 20.8 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our Z32s would be at their terminal velocity by that time!

Things have changed and russians do make some cool cars now

Yup, they have a really distinctive engine note and whilst I loathe the cars themselves, I have a strange fondness for them as my Uncle Yanni had a brand new one when Hungary was still under communist rule. He was/is quite wealthy for Hungarian standards (owns a new Mercedes E-Class now), but back then, this was all they could purchase. They didn't have a choice in colour and he was on the waiting list for quite a few years before one was delivered to him. So, I know how important those cars (despite their horrors) were to the people of the Eastern Bloc countries in the 70s and 80s.

They are shit though, but I always have a warm feeling whenever I hear one trundle past....probably because I am being asphyxiated by the exhaust fumes!
