Well it arrived today..... Looking good with leads, etc......

BUT, needs a battery pack or some way of charging the one in there to see if it works...... Trying to remember..... These can run from the power from the in car diagnostic port can't they?

Anyone know of somewhere to get a battery pack and charger for a consult unit??

Glad it's arrived safely :thumbup1:

can't help with the battery pack though

Hi everyone..... Does anyone have one of these?

I need to know what the power supply voltage and amps should be..... There was no power supply with the unit....

The battery is a 4.8v 7W pack that has been cut open and 4 x AA batteries soldered in place....

There is a connector for a power adapter, but I can't find any info on the spec of this.......

Thanks....

Russ

What info does it have on the box/unit?

Could you post a decent visible image?

Hi Tomo, The label on back say's .... D.C 4.8V 7W Canon Inc. next to the battery pack and the power lead input.....

The consult II version runs on a 12v supply and has a 7.2v battery pack....

I wasn't sure if this uses a 12v power supply or a lower voltage......

I don't want to fry it with wrong voltage.....

The battery pack is dead and there is no charger.....

I have ordered a 4x AA battery holder from CPC and a variable voltage power adapter that does 5v to 12v.....

I am going to remove the battery pack and fit the new battery holder in it's place. I can then remove the batteries and charge them separately. The ones that someone has used to mend the battery pack have been soldered in.... can't remove them to charge in my charger...

I can't find a single bit of info on the consult I unit anywhere on the internet....

Well I'm off the see se Nissans old owner on Friday next week so could always have a word with him, never know... He may even have a spare battery and charger, but if not may know what exactly you need to get it up and running.

That would be superb........ Thanks for that.....

Can you ask him for my clear side repeaters back.........lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Well I replaced the battery pack and connectors with a 4 x AA box and it is officially KNACKERED..... the main power board is dead and it still doesn't work when attached to my Z's port.....

I need a circuit diagram, but there appears to be no info on any website, trust me I have looked everywhere......

It looks like I am going to have to spend some time fault finding this...... The supply voltage is not getting to the display section..... and there are 4 boards in the unit with multiple brittle flat cables...... and no idea what voltage readings I should have and where......

I am going to call in the father in law and see if he can help...... He is a lot better with fault finding and multilayer boards than me......

Could you not get your money back assuming he sold it as a working unit and didn't declare that it wasn't fully functioning?

Sorry to hear about this Russ. Gutted for you mate!

as for sending it back? I think the sale declared it as "for parts or not working"

I am sure there will be a radio/electrical repair shop somewhere who can sort it mate.

I will do some shopping around in my neck of the woods, you never know.

Could you not get your money back assuming he sold it as a working unit and didn't declare that it wasn't fully functioning?

Just re read the advert and it was sold as untested, no returns, spares or repair......

Never mind...... It will live again...... Just may be some time..... I need to be able to fault find it and get my mind round the layout of the circuit board..... Without my kids keep interrupting....

I am guessing that as there was no power supply with it.... someone tried the wrong one before I got it and has blown something on the power supply side.... well hoping that is the case......

As it is run on a 4.8v battery and power supply and the main voltage for the board is 5v, I am hoping it hasn't killed any of the processors and just a resistor or diode...... Long shot......lol

plug it into the "free" conzult for fault codes:tongue_smilie:

  • 2 weeks later...

it might need a factory reset...using this procedure:

hi mate did you ever get your consult up and working?? Ive got one and could do with some help

Mine powers up but just says error code 200........ incorrect power apparently...... But I built a new power pack for it and am supplying the correct voltage..... So need to have another look when I have time....

What do you need to know bnr34...?

The only manuals will be on ebay if you can find one .... I spoke to Nissan uk and they couldn't help.....

If you decide to sell it then let me know..... I may be able to get one working out of the 2......... lol

> Lymon - do you have more pages from the consult manual?

yes, I have the complete consult 1 and consult 2 manual (both in paper form), but both manuals are in German...only the General information section also has a few English parts.

I have had quite a few original consult units go through my hands and most of the problems with the consult 1 units are simple: the battery packs are long gone and/or the backup battery is dead.

If yours doesn't power up the main battery pack is most likely dead...as is the backup battery.

The main battery pack needs to be in good shape and (fully) charged, otherwise you won't be able to power up the consult unit.

Connecting the charger or connecting it to the car won't work..it needs a functional and charged battery pack.

Easiest way to fix a dead battery pack is to just cut the pack open and replace the 4 cells with 4 AA rechargeable batteries (2000mah or higher)

> Mine powers up but just says error code 200

for future reference:

Error 200 : Low main battery (solution: replace/repair main battery pack)

Error 203 : Low backup battery (solution: replace backup Lithium battery)

Error 206 or 211 : Program error (solution: reload the main program from card)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Where is the backup battery located and what power rating is that one?

The main battery is dead for sure as it's leaked acid and is just a flat line voltage wise.

The rating is 4.7V @ 700ma according to the label on it.

Manual would be useful in English to refer back to once it's up and running lol

Presently with 4 AA batteries it still won't power up at all.

Thanks again for the response guys

PS.... Lymon - when you've seen the main battery pack cut, which side makes it the cleanest job to get to the old cells easily without making a complete mess of the pack?

> which side makes it the cleanest job to get to the old cells easily without making a complete mess of the pack?

if you look closely to the side that has the sticker, you'll see it's actually a lid that has been glued in.

With a sharp knife and some patience you can remove the lid again and in some cases re-use it after you have replaced the batteries

It's under the card holder.

(be careful not to damage the flatcable when removing the card holder!)

if you are sure the repaired battery pack is fully charged and the consult still won't power up, you should try the factory reset procedure as I have posted earlier
