I've been running a Greddy Profec E-01 for about 6 or 7 years now, but noticed over the last 18 months or so that often the boost doesn't come on as strong as usual. When I look at the graphing display that shows the boost over the last 20-odd seconds (which is a very useful feature!) it's kind of scrambled in that the line will be bouncing up and down from top to bottom in a kind of scribble pattern, instead of showing a curved build-up and then straight line. This isn't overboost or the limiter kicking in as I know what that would look like, and I'm confident in the settings [which were tweaked by Noel recently].
What'll happen is I'll boost, say in 2nd gear, and the car won't accelerate as strong, I'll hear a regular clicking noise from deep behind the speedo cluster (which I guess could actually be the solenoid/controller itself in the driver's near corner of the engine bay), and the graph will 'scramble'. I'll take my foot off, then plant it again, and then it would usually boost properly. It's pretty much 50/50 whether I'll get a good strong boost or a half-arsed boost. I'm confident in the settings of the controller and I'm sure the plumbing is good otherwise the problem would occur pretty much every time. When boosting properly it holds max boost consistently @ 17.5psi and acts as I'd expect it to so there shouldn't be any leaks.
When Noel was mapping my car he mentioned to me when I was collecting it that he thought the controller was faulty.
So I guess what I'd like opinions on is is there any way of checking the actual solenoid part of the EBC in the engine bay for faults. I'm guessing it's a mechanical fault as opposed to an electronic fault (i.e. the screen unit and the sensors, albeit a few horizontal lines of the LCD display are faulty but I'm sure that's not causing the problem!). Instead of just buying a whole new EBC I wonder if it's possible to buy only the mechanical/solenoid part in an attempt to replace just that part.
All,
