I haven't got exact figures yet but I just got to Elgin on a single tank. 348miles on a tank!

Now I normally hate miles per tank but as I couldn't afford to brim the tank again at this end it will have to do. I filled the tank with momentum 99 as I set off and started the trip meter. I decided at Stirling when I had exactly half a tank after 180 miles that I was doing it on one tank or pushing. Now with about 40 miles to go in the middle of lord of the rings I passed a rare petrol station with a fuel tank a woman would call empty. By the time I had 10 miles to go even I thought it was empty but I got to Elgin Tescos after 148 miles.

I'll just crunch some numbers but that has to be good, 90 quid of momentum 99 to go this far. A lot of it at nearly 80 and a lot on single carriageway.

Oh! And the car contained among other things, a fridge full of papers a 48inch TV and a lot of bags.

Looking at it I think it May be no better than 25mpg :-\ but that's good for my zed which drinks fuel. And it had the equivalent of 4people in it it was packed.

And a ****ing pheasant did this to20130925_180922.jpg my car...

My old slicktop managed 28mpg on its long run to JAE a few years ago... interesting as my LWB would only do 25/26 showing the lighter weight of the slicktop!

how come you didnt you go straight up the A1? could of knocked off around 45miles from your journey.

It's a shite road to drive.

It's often quicker time wise from our neck of the woods to nip across to the M74 and up that way if you are going any further North than Stirling.

For Tom, the A68 would be quicker than the A1 if he chose to stay on the East coast. A1 wouldn't even be an option.

When I drive up to Aberdeen (from about 30 miles East of Tom) it's 50/50 whether I go A1 or M74. Just depends on my mood.

I have no idea how you did that! You must have been doing 56 all the way! lol

On my recent trip to southern France in my Z I did the following. I've only just calculated it as I just don't really care that much about MPG, but it's pretty interesting to note.

Portsmouth to Portishead @ 135

St Malo to Puylaroque @ 480 miles

+ 50 miles of driving the local lanes

Puylaroque - Ouistreham (port of Caen) via Poitiers @ 450

Portsmouth to Portishead @ 135

Total 1250

Assuming the fuel tank of a 2+2 is 70 litres which is 15 gallons, that's roughly 56.25 gallons of fuel used...I averaged just over 22mpg! LOL. I did have brief spats of fast driving and hard acceleration and didn't hold back at all and always used super unleaded. However I did cruise at about 80 for most of the route down through the west coast. On my way back I drove through the vast expanse of the 'Massif Central' which is pretty up and down as it's plateau and mountain, so often you're driving in boost. I do however think it's high time I got TurboNoz to map it. Car.Mad reckons his MPG rose substantially. I am running a pretty generic John Dixon chip. I am not too fussed, but increased power with decreased fuel consumption? I'll have some of that!

Yeah I've had over 30 in my Lwb when it was auto.

22mpg still isn't bad considering it's chipped and even what it is to start with! It's a 20+ year old 3l twin turbo, modern cars of that kind of spec and power output only achieve mildly more really.

Dead right mate.....!!

Best I have had from the ZX is something like 312 miles between fill-ups. My SLK is a 3.5 litre with 308bhp and realistically it achieves 25mpg as per the trip computer (or 360 miles between fill-ups). I have only ever achieved over 400miles in the Merc if I've stuck to a fairly low average speed......

.....Which rarely happens:wink:

Richard:devil2:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Well, let's not assume. Fuel tank on the Z is the same for NA or TT and SWB and 2+2. That's 72l which is 15.8 UK gallons (18.7 US). (And the light's supposed to come on with approx 15l left or 3.3 UK gals or 66miles the way I drive. But I'd never run it that past the light low because I'm a wimp.)

In tracking my stock S6 NA Auto over 31,754 miles, it gets average 23.8 mpg (maybe 80% London commute) and best 28mpg (I think with restraint and some long motorways, I could get over 30 if I was really IAM-style).

On my stock S1 TT manual, the average I got over 2005/06 was 20.57 over 12,489 miles (maybe 50% commute with worst tank at 17.4 and best 24.8 which was almost all holiday mway trips).

http://www.fuelly.com has a lot of miles logged for 300ZXs unfortunately not split NA/TT but interesting to see what is recorded in the real world. You could log yours and then prove what yours actually does and it's quite an easy way to check before/after any mods, remaps etc.

If the fig is 22mpg based on a 15g tank, corrected to the correct tank size makes it 20.9mpg and on that sort of run, I would expect 23 - 24 so probably gels with the chipped vs stock.

As an aside, I measured religiously for some years Vpower vs Fuelsave (with the occasional run on alleged Tesco 99) and in TT there was about 10% better on VPower than Fuelsave. Marginal and possibly affected by knowing what I was measuring.

When I did months of comparison in 11/12 between VPower and Fuelsave with about 6,000 miles on each (in my NA Auto S6), I found 23.5mpg on VPower and 23.4mpg on Fuelsave. So I don't bother with VPower anymore. If I ever get another TT, I'd repeat the test because it was a bigger difference in my old TT.

yeah mine is amazing now. I jumped from 19mpg upto 33mpg just with a remap it was worth every penny. also don't forget the 33mpg was with 440hp and 480ft/lb oh and a na diff. so if I had the TT one still on I might of got more :)

Also that was with a boot full of subs and a jack with a tool kit just incase :lol:

Must have been doing 72-74mph!

wow steady on that's over the speed limit

Imagine 2800rpm... although must have been more like 3300 with your NA diff ;)

What does the theoretical (actual on yours!!) top end drop to with an NA diff?

I only ever average about 19mpg, I tend to bottle it when the light flash's. usually about 220 miles from the top. I only ever run it on Tesco 99. Don't think I've ever got over 25mpg before. After reading Car.Mad's post after the remap I started thinking about going to see Noz, but I figured it's pretty pointless until I have both Lambda sensors working first...

I'd be over the moon with that figure though Tom, and I hope the pheasant looked worse than your aerial.

I got 27 or so once over 80miles so God knows how people are managing 30+ I blame my massive exhaust I think it costs me some low down response having been in mondos car. But it's ace at full throttle.

It's right what you say about modern cars not doing much better, 430hp a car full of stuff and forget the 25mpg I was comfortable, it was quiet, the climate was controlled, I had the option to use cruise control (which I didn't) and I looked awesome in every shop window.

Oh, and with regards to the route, I would normally cut the corner a bit more and go to Alston up teesdale then north but thought that May bring out the devil in my right foot.

Just a small note on Fuelly.com (and other online mpg figures)

You have to watch for the country of origin due to the difference in the size of the US gallon and the British Imperial gallon.

ie. 20mpg in the U.S is equivalent to around 24mpg UK.

Tbh I didn't really notice much of a raise. Only about 3/400rpm so not. Noticeable really.

The Tt is geared for 198mph and the na will reach 175mph but most zeds will reach this on the tt diff. You just get there alot quicker in the na

Overtakeing I found a huge difference :)

In fuelly, you can choose US gal or UK gal and mpg or L/100km or km/l and it shows the figs appropriately so someone in US who has chosen US gal can see my mpg using US gals even if I input it in UK gals. Which I happen to note is 19.4 MPUSG or 12.1 L/100km :D

this website stuff all sounds very confusing, I just brim the tank and then divide how much I've used by the miles on my clock...

I thought about this thread today when I was tootling around town and thought to myself I too have got 400 out of a full tank but when I read it again you only got 348 !!!

A few weeks back I filled to the brim with Momentum 99, I then got to JAE 170 miles away and back and some extra running about on a few days only local though. Today my trip reading was on 397 when I got back to Tescos to put some more in, and the needle was pretty much where it was when I filled those weeks ago for JAE.

I too have noticed improvement after a visit to Noz and don't forget mine is a 500 BHP car but slightly lighter with it being a slicktop.

Lets see if others can get 400 out of a full tank :detective:.

Mine has been superb on fuel for the past 6 years....... Cheapest car I have ever owned for fuel.........

Hasn't used any in 6 years.......:whistling::lol:

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
