I think I've sealed the actual sump itself fine, using heat resistant gasket sealant. I went all the way around, concentrating on the dimpled bits, and used a thin covering on the curved seal areas at each side.

However, I didn't use any sealant on the inner section of the plastic seals, as they fit into grooves on the bottom of the engine. There clearly hasn't been sealant used in the grooves previously.

Do you think it will be ok? Do I need to do it again?

I suppose the obvious thing to do is fill the engine with oil and see if it leaks, but that won't test it under preasure when the engine is running.

I put a blob each end of the seal to hold it in place, then sealed the sump filling the groove with a bead of RTV which I think is what the service manual told me to do so should be fine

Thanks, that makes me feel happier. Still I think I'll fill the engine will oil before reinstalling it, and check for any leaks in the sump area!

the oil level is way below the sump line bud...any leaks wont be apparent till its run up
