Come and show your Z off at Haynes Motor Museum next weekend!

Hello everyone.....I hope the committee don't mind me putting this here.

I am sure most of you have seen my thread about the Haynes Motor Museum meet in the local regions section. I had a conversation there today with one of the museum co-ordinators and told them of what we're doing and they're very keen to have a Z car gathering there at their 'Rare Breeds' event which takes place at their adjacent runway next Sunday (1st Sept). She is keen for me to get in touch with her with names and cars that are going as she wants to offer a little club plot and some wrist-bands for the event. There are all sorts of different cars there, so if you're interested in strange, rare or interesting vehicles, then this looks likely to float your canoe!

So I am just wondering whether anyone else wants to come along? So far we have about 11 names and half of those people are bringing their Z cars. It would be great to have some presence there as there is little Z presence at this event and all sorts of other local car clubs go to this. I know this is the week before JAE, but those in the southern counties might want to come along who don't want to make the trek up north, the weather is forecast to be hot and sunny and the event is free (unless you want to have a mosey around the museum - which I must stress is AWESOME and probably the best in the country!)

For those that aren't too sure where it is, it's in Sparkford in beautiful rural Somerset which is just off the A303 trunk road (so very easy to get to and on good roads) about an hour and 45 mins from West London, hour from Southampton/Bournemouth areas, just over an hour from Bristol and about 45 minutes from Exeter.

Sure thing Vig. Taking your car to Jimmer's? Would be great to catch up. Shame you can't make the 1st. Let me know when you're about. :)

Sounds like a great show. Good luck to all who go and plenty of pics guys.

Agreed Gary - and thanks to Si for posting/organising it!!

I'd like to come along to this myself; but just have to check with Julia first, of course....

Guys when you're on the A303 Haynes is the first or second turnoff heading East after the fleet air arm museum, that place is sign posted very well.

Just invade anyone's planning on going that way the a37 is closed ATM about half way up, no diversion nothing. Grrr

Really? Near Salisbury? Resurfacing or something? I'll take A303 to the M3 and then down to the M27 then when I head down to Pompey after.

Really wish I had a Zed to take. This sounds like its right up my street :(

Nice little compliment we have now. I've managed to get 240zs, 260zs, 300zxs and now, the 350 owners have bitten! Should be a nice Z car gathering, something that rarely happens south of the Billing Aquadrome! Guessing about 12 cars now and probably 15-20 peoples!

This is going to be a fun event! Just found out that all drivers of entered cars get free admission to the museum, there are various cruises, a parade lap on their track, various show and shine competitions and John Haynes (founder of the Haynes Manuals and owner of the museum) is doing an awards ceremony at about 4. Over 100 cars going and the weather looks dry!! :)

John was actually on Classic Car Club the other day. Nice chap who is (obviously) HUGELY passionate about cars.

Just come along. There are others going who don't have their Zs.

I'm still hoping to get along to this also.....

.....Julia is taking part in a sponsored run somwhere for a charity I probably don't know about; and I do not have work on Monday so I could be on for this!! I just need to give the Z a wash tomorrow or Saturday - the front is covered in dead flies from a couple of recent Sunday outings:wink:

What time is everyone getting there?

Richard, when you've cleaned your Z, get some cling film on the bumpers and wing mirrors. Just peel it off when you get to us!

Righty....final details for Sunday:

Aim to be at Podimore Services by 9am - 9.15am. It'll be a good chance for everyone to meet up as there are a number of folks who'll not be taking their Z cars. I am suggested heading off in convoy about 9.45am at the absolute latest as Haynes want all cars that are going to be on show to be on-site by 10 to register and collect our wrist-bands. Haynes Museum is only about 10-15 minutes away,

Now, this is a car-show, not wanting to sound anal, but please make sure your cars are clean! :)

The show lasts all day and car owners in the show, you're encouraged (by the organisers) to stay until the award ceremony at 4 (given by John Haynes himself). Appreciate some of you may have commitments, like myself, I have to head to Portsmouth and I'll likely be leaving about 2pm. There will be plenty to do during the day. Museum visit, a parade lap around the track, a few group runs into the country, show & shine competitions and food, plus over 100 private cars on show from MG Midgets to Bristol Fighters and so on and so forth.

Weather forecast is currently dry, but cloudy, so bring a sweater just in case you find 20 degrees a little cool.

Postcode for Podimore Services is BA22 8JG. It's off of the Podimore Roundabout on the A303.

If you're coming from the London direction, keep in the left lane and take the first exit off. The road kinda double backs and keep your eye out for the entrance, again, on the left - See below (Podimore Roundabout Exit on A303)

podimore3_zpsf12416d5.jpg

If you're coming from the Yeovil/Exeter way, you go right at Podimore roundabout on the A303, so get in the right lane and turn and you'll see it signposted.

podimore2_zpsef2615c5.jpg

There are a number of other country roads that join up with this roundabout, but the A303 is the main road. It's not the biggest service station in the world, but there should be parking there as there's a Travelodge, Burger King/Little Thief + an Esso or Total petrol station. I am not entirely sure at what part of the service station we'll meet as I'll imagine a few other car clubs will be meeting there at a similar time, but hopefully we'll be able to all bunch up together.

Service station entrance. It's slightly hidden on the slip round, so keep your eyes peeled for the left turn and this is the view you'll have.

If anyone gets there late and we're not there, the postcode for Haynes Motor Museum is BA22 7LH If you're coming from Podimore Roundabout, head toward Andover/London on the A303 and exit on the Sparkford/Castle Cary junction. Head down the hill until you get to the T-Junction at the bottom and turn right. Haynes Motor Museum is about 200 yards further down that road on the left.

Lastly, if anyone has any problems or gets lost, my number again is 07510169836[

Awesome info Si, just to add there's a f*cking great pot hole at the entrance to the services and in them. Be carefull as they are big!
