It's my understanding that when the car is put in gear the timing should change. This should be noticeable on the rev counter, well it's not. Revs raise when you depress the clutch then stay the same as you select a gear. Trouble is my bottom pulley has no marks on it....

So what should I do first?

Pretty sure you can check whether the switch works on ConZult. You done that yet?

I was advised that, when converting from auto to manual, the neutral switch on the gearbox needed connecting as, if it was left disconnected, the timing changed by 15 degrees.

Dunno if that's relevant to your question or not though...

It does change and quite noticeably when cold, i find that there isnt much of a noticeable change once up to temp and been driving around for a while, also when i spoke to Jeff about this iirc, if the car is chipped as a manual you would hardly notice the change in revs.

Mine was converted to manual and i still use dta chiped auto ecu. My car revs 300rpm higher when in gear

I converted mine and still use a devlin chip for an auto hence mine rises too, if you get a chip for a manual it should make a difference iirc.

I'm pretty certain that the Devin map is for a manual, unless I've just forgotten ...

Il have a chat with my mate see if we can get data scan on the go. If I can't be doing with the neutral switch can I just set the base timing to 25 btdc. What I'm more concerned with is working out accurately what my timing is as I have I timing marks on the crank pulley.

I wouldnt know Andy, but when i purchased the chipped ecu a few years ago i had an auto and its quite an agressive chip and the vvt doesnt come in till later in the rev band, which i want to change at some point.

No base idle needs to be at 15deg, you would need to put on the original crank pulley back on to set the timing with a light. I had the same issue with the after market pulley with no timing marks on, although according to consult and datascan mine is as it should be.

You can connect the neutral feed from the gearbox directly to the ecu.
