Hello everyone!

so what's your favourite and why? I always loved leather but my Zed has cloth currently and I quiet like it... Grips you in the corners! Is a navy blue which is smart too, but still considering picking up leathers this weekend... question is, would leather be lower than the cloth? I changed seats in my old E36 328i to leathers and they were considerably lower/sportier! If the only difference is my ass is going ot slip all over the place then I probably won't bother, but if they feel sportier and lower then I will be very tempted!

best regards,

William.

the only diff yourll notice cas ive had both is if you drive a car insted of letting it drive you then yourll be more slippery in the leather seat than a hoes knikers on a sunday morning. im sticking to my cloth but that said when i slow down ill be getting leather cas it looks better. live life drive a 300

There was a thread a while ago about the difference between import v UK seats, I know that's not exactly what you are asking but it is related because the conclusion was that import seats sit higher (Japanese market average height being shorter than UK/European market) and was spotted by a member who thought he was imagining it after getting a new zed that was an import and felt his head was closer to the roof than his old UK spec one...or vice versa.

I do like leather, but burns your legs in the summer and freezes your ass in the winter, so i reverted to the series 2 cloth seats probably the same as yours lol

Hahaha thats brilliant! Be great to know how much truth is in this, but I definitely thought mine seems higher than a lot of others I have driven, but couldn't tell if it was just me making it up in my head!! Hmmmm UK seats it is then!!!

but yeah I agree with you spin doctor, makes sense :)

Not seen this discussion you mentioned, but I dont believe thats the case. I have never noticed any difference in height between UK and Jap seats, and with the 8-way electric adjustability of them I see no reason for them to be different.

What is always surprising though is the amount of owners that don't realise that the the electric switches toggle in 4 directions giving the seat base height and rake adjustment.

hmmmmmm I just went through 10 pages of discussions about seats and can't find the one referenced.. Perhaps I can test this theory at teh Yeovil meet next weekend. any excuse to sit in other Zeds

In the leather vs cloth debate, for me leather will always win.....

......I love the whole concept, feel, smell and sense of occasion that a leather interior adds to any car journey. Hence I would always try to get leather seats in any car I purchased - hell, I searched for months for one with leather when buying Julia's latest Rav-4 a few years ago... The only downside with leather seats, is when they look scruffy, boy do they look bad!!!

Richard:shuriken:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

ive just sold a jap and still got my uk one the uk deff sit higher

Thats the opposite to what the thread mistyblue82 was talking about says.

I'm 6'5" and one of my worries was leg room when I was looking for a zed. I sat in 3 zed's..... 2 JDM with cloth and my UK with leather.

Not sure if coz being import or cloth but I get less room between my legs and steering wheel with them than I do with my UK with leather, u work it out ! :)

After adjusting both the seat height and seat base/bottom angle ?

No idea if its true or not, just remember reading a thread about it, not sure if it was on here or another zed site...it may have been that they just hadn't realised that the seat could go up and down and their UK one happened to be sitting at a lower setting and they came to a false conclusion but entertaining thought all the same

I think you have seen the one he may have read, I also think you posted on it! I started the thread wondering why my jdm seats were higher than my uk seats... It was a fairly long thread lol!

Interesting. I have mixed feelings for both.

I spent quite a bit of money retrimming my seats about 5 years ago and love the look over the tweed. There are a few negatives with leather, yeah, they can be hot in the summer months. I wouldn't know about the winter as I never drive it during that season. In addition, leather creeks a little and don't have the sound deadening qualities of cloth.

I think if I was to re-do my Z interior again, I would likely opt-out of having leather and go for a 2-tone alcantara type interior. I'd loose that yummy smell and feel though, so there are pluses and negatives to both for me.

I'd have leather over tweed any day though. I don't mind the feel of tweed so much, more the look. UK tweed looks nicer than Jap tweed.

Here's my before/after shots. The first one looks like a studio shot, that's because it is as back in 2008 (I think), my car was professionally photographed for a 6 page article in 'Japanese Performance' magazine for a buying guide.

Haha. I don't think my seats have height adjustment?........ or if they do then I am pretty sure I have them low already. Will have to test at the weekend against other peoples.

If the drivers seat is electric then it definitely does have height adjustment. Each of the controls moves in 4 directions.

1. Seat forward and back

2. Seat backrest angle

3. Seat height

4. Seat base angle.

3. and 4. both affect how low/high you sit in the seat.

I cant remember for the manual driver seats, they probably are too, but they are pretty rare.

I just had to go and try it, you learn something new everyday lol

I have a set of factory fit recaros, they certainly sit nice and low. I have the outers in original black fabric and the centre panels in grey alcantera.

wouldn't mind retrimming the outers in black leather though

Ah nice! I test drive one with those seats but they looked a bit shabby although they were comfy and low! Pretty rare. Shame the car attached to them was a dog!

Mine are manual seats, although just read that the interior is a very rare blue tweed so I am more inclined to keep it now - although it is starting to smell funny :s need some febreeze maybe?...
