Here's some food for thought....

...The Government (this one, the previous one and no doubt the future governments too) has been on a crusade to reduce CO2 gas; and is taxing us to the b0ll0x in the name of reducing our carbon footprint. I have always been a global warming sceptic - even more so when, once it was proven the world was not actually heating up, "they" renamed it climate change - but! I hear today that a new study suggests that life on Earth will die in a billion years because.....

......There will be TOO LITTLE CO2 in the atmosphere!!! Yup, that's what is being said. Apparently the Sun will grow hotter as it ages (apparently common with all stars - but the global warming doom mongers always omit that fact) and as it does, greater evaporation and chemical reactions with rainwater will take away more and more carbon dioxide.

And when that happens, there will not be enough CO2 for plants to photosynthesise - hence plants will not be able to survive. With the loss of plants, not only will herbivorous animals also die out, so too will the carnivores that prey on them. And let's not forget to mention the oxygen, that the plants produce through photosynthesis, which living organisms (like us) need to survive!!

I realise I am (1) not a scientist; and (2) in the minority with my thoughts - since successive governments throughout the world have brainwashed the population into believing the global warming myth - but think about it for a second!! What if it's true - and I won't say I told you so in a billion years - but what if....

So for common sense, I implore the government, future governments the world over; and like minded petrol heads. Let's cease the daft policies of taxation on CO2 production; let's drive our twin turbo charged dinosaurs and, if we want, great big V8s and be proud that we are preserving life on Earth that little bit longer!!!

Richard:yes:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Why on earth should we care what happens in a billion years? a hundred years come to that, as neither of us will be here lol

science teacher told me and my class mates a little story of how we as adults will pay for the sun killing the earth, he told us that the sun will in one way consume the planet, it gets hotter and hotter every year and will burn up the co2 and ozone layer

scare mongering story we thought, but he also said that once this starts to happen that the goverment will use this to tax us to near poverty, no one believed hiom as we were kids and didnt understand polotics and the thieves running the country

should have took him more seriously

I could and should contribute to this thread. I studied enviromental science at college. Global warming, climate change etc has far more to do with tax than it does pollution. The biggest contribution to rising co2 concentrations is plankton blooms which are due to increase temperature, the ey were tought to think of it is upside down. Co2 is rising in a reaction to global temperature rises. There's more as well particularly in regards to coral reefs that were tought that is well wrong. Corals die because of temperature rises right....no wrong.

Global warming is absolute *****cks. People who buy Hybrid and electric vehicles need a slap or a good kicking. Especially the people who buy them to 'save money'. By the time you buy a crappy new Lexus or Toyota hybrid you could buy an old V12 Jaguar, fuel tax and insure it for about 5 years which is about the life-cycle of the batteries in these hideous hybrid vehicles. AND you wouldn't look like a tool driving around everywhere!

Plus those lunatics in Asia are gonna blow the planet up way before we have to worry about our atmosphere falling over.

AND don't get me started on the 5p charge for a plastic bag rule. When I have one of my off days (like today, can you tell?) I really do feel like strangling these politically correct lefties with my bag for life

A 1000 years is only a blink in the grand sceme of things so makes me laugh when "experts" make out they know so much about this planet and what makes it tick.Human habitation is in its very early stage and imho has not had the time to make impact yet.The earths carbon..water and every other element has not changed in content since earth was formed,it only changes its form from one area to another..nothing can get in or escape the protective skin around the globe so when some politition tells me ime increasing the earths carbon its a load of shite as it never changes. So many people are falling for all this noncence that the more we live the more we destroy and by handing over money to our goverments it makes it all better and we all can live none-guilty lives as we,ve paid our "earth repair tax":rofl::nono:

handing over money to our goverments it makes it all better and we all can live none-guilty lives as we,ve paid our "earth repair tax

I liked this last line... considering the Government only give the people what they ask for and do what the masses cry out for.. then have to raise funds/taxs to pay for it all... surely we should not be against governments and certainly not scientists or even the hacks who write about them but we should unite against the problem which, in my words, is being stood at the back of a very very big crowd trying to be heard, but you can't because all that is infront of us are noisy scared sheep.

I think Climate change is a big problem, and it more than likely will get worse before it gets better. but I don't think it's man made, and your right in the tax's are purely for fuelling greed in governments. it is most definitely a scare tactic, and what's worse is that it is working. Of course though the likes of the oil companies are all game for it because they get their record profits due to obscene price of oil. However, when it comes to the plastic bag crack I think there is some truth in that. there is so much unnecessary waste which could be easily preventable, due to something simple as taking your canvas bag to the supermarket.

As for the climate change issue, here's a good video that explains a little of the bigger picture.

The channel is just one guy who puts up a video every day called 3min news, it's a round up of weather, space weather, earthquakes and other environmental news throughout the world. there's some good stuff on it. this is a short recap of the solar system shift and the climate change phenomena.

What I love is the conviction that were "killing the planet", how are they so sure.

as little as 25000 years ago britain was still seing out the end of the last ice age, the clue being in the title. It was COLD here and over most of the planet, since then the planet has been getting warmer, is in not possible that the planet is simply continuing to warm up and it has in actual fact got bugger all to do with us.

It might very well happen that the climate changes to the point where humans and many other life forms are killed off, it wont be the first loss of a species in the 4.6 billion years the planet has been around, but the planet is still here and doing quite fine thank you.

Dont get me wrong, I'm all for reducing pollution where we can, we do still have to live here after all. Just stop with the pretence of screwing us out of our hard earned cash as some way of supposidly making things better. The only way it will get better is if we all do something, that means the big countries like america and china need to act as well or anything we do is simply an insignificant drop in the ocean.

Rant Over!!!!!!

I don't think the human race will die out if it all goes wrong on Earth we will be living on other plants or in very large space stations. Infact at the rate of evolution we are going through with all the new technology we might not need the plant Earth to survive on.

Futuristic rant over.

the planet works in cycles.

anyway, from a very good meteorologist

With my last climate change post I was asked why we aren't seeing cooling. Well there it is... -.83 C per century cooling over the last eight and a half years (blue line). Not yet statistically significant, but not that far away either. The red line is what was predicted by the IPCC and what we have spent billions and billions of dollars of taxpayer money on.

The key thing to remember is that catastrophic climate change was originally sold on the idea of out of control warming (the hockey stick). It was the idea that not only were we warming, but that we were warming at a faster and faster rate because of CO2.

we are actually cooling, not warming.

then we also have this, from the same friend

This graph shows how the temperature record was adjusted between 2008 and 2013 for GISS (NASA). Notice that from about 1900 to 1960 the atmosphere magically cooled decades after the fact. Also, the atmosphere somehow warmed post 1960, although it waited until the last 5 years to do so. So basically .15 degrees C or 1/3rd of the amount of warming for the past 100 years that is claimed as catastrophic occurred in a few small offices after 2008.

Keep in mind that these are just the changes that were recently made. Adjustments have been made since the 80's, and although there is always a "justification" for each one, there are a few simple rules that will always be followed:

1. Temps in the second half of the 20th century get adjusted up.

2. Temps in the first half of the 20th century get adjusted down.

3. Temps from the Little Ice Age (LIA) get adjusted up.

4. Temps from the Medieval Warm Period get adjusted down.

By doing this, a few things are accomplished. First, it gives the false impression that temps were extremely stable before 1900. Second, it reduces the temperatures from the extremely hot 1930's nullifying the actual readings and making recent years the hottest years on record whereas they are likely behind several of the years in the mid 1930's. Finally, these adjustments give a nice sharp slope to the line in the second half of the 20th century when you take a quick glance at a temperature graph. Fortunately (or unfortunately for you believers) that slope is a lie.

Now that we're approaching two decades with no warming and one decade with slight cooling, the idea that CO2 is a major driver of climate is becoming more laughable rather than just questionable. Of course, right on cue, the people occupying the White House are proposing sweeping regulatory overhauls for the energy industry which will not only eliminate thousands of jobs but will also pass huge costs on to the struggling middle class. Increasing the cost of energy will drive up the price of EVERYTHING.

yes he is American

that would only happen if we had a catastrophic event that made people not care about value of stock.

I have a theory that the dinosaurs secretly had V12 4x4's, plasma tv's and brontosaurus-dung-fuelled power stations that caused the ice age, as 'man' wasn't even around for a few billion years after this!!

Anyone who doesn't take climate change seriously is an idiot and will eventually clear themselves out of the gene pool - hopefully without taking the rest of us with them which is what will happen if CO2 gets out of control. What's the surface temp of Venus? (And before any climate change denier pops in with "but Venus never had man burning fossil fuels" that's not the point - the point is Venus is a clear case of runaway greenhouse effect. Whether the cause is man-made or natural, you don't want to be there when it happens.)

An interesting quote

Climate change deniers have chosen to start this graph with that very high blue mark just prior to the new millenium, 1998. Zooming in to such a small area of the graph, has allowed them to make it appear as if warming has stopped since that high point fifteen years ago.
and looky at the graph posted earlier. Marvellous what you can get away with by being selective with your data and hoping your audience are too dumb to spot it.

Here's the long-term graph which is what you need to look at when looking at climate effects:

dn11639-2_808.jpg

And that's from the New Scientist which is a reputable journal rather than lame-brained pseudo-science. And here's a reference http://glipho.com/kvntodd11/debunking-the-pseudoscience-of-global-warming-deniers

Speaking as a once-trained-scientist, don't let "opinion" take the place of proper, peer-reviewed scientific method because that way you end up buying a lot of snake oil. And if you don't understand the difference between the scientific method and nutcases, you should put your brain in gear.

Is there really any need to be so condescending if someone doesn't trust so called "professional scientists" you know the same ones that have been throwing it in our face that we are all doomed, climate change is a tax revenue. already posted as well above is a clear graph showing the manipulation with in the last 100 years.

we are still in an ice age, as we have ice at the polar caps, if we lose them it will not be the first time in the planets history that we have had no ice. the very fact we are still 15 degree's cooler than when the dinosaurs ruled the earth also means we are not as "hot" as these scientists claim and that the planet can function just as well.

Did no one notice how they also changed the name from global warming to climate change? I suppose its easier to sell something that's less scarey sounding and can account for fluctuations in temperature rather than out right "heating up of the planet"

there are plenty of graphs out there available with temperature readings from ice cores taken from various spots around the earth giving us a reading for a good 400,000 years and more. use one of these and it clearly shows the natural cycle of the earths climate, where there are warm periods and cool periods, with also increases in Co2 levels as well, like this one.

CO2-01.jpg

To blindly believe climate change scientists who ignore these trends in the earths history is just silly really.

There's not many out there that would deny that climate change is occuring, it's a measurable thing occuring daily. What I take issue with is the way it's presented. The accepted "fact" is its due to human activity, and a energy saving bulbs will help.

As the old saying goes there's three kinds of lies, white lies, damned lies and statistics. As an educated person you must be aware of the recent trend of publicised scientific articles, funding is far easier to obtain if you provide the "right" answers. The current data, ESP the ones that dominate the press are shall we say a little biased.

Pollution is bad, fact. The enviroment is changing, fact. Humanity is to blame, opinion. Humanity fully understands the universes grand scheme of change, false.

Time will tell, but currently global policies and the studies that dengue the data are to a greater extent driven by politics and money. For those who make the decisions money is the be all. Take smoking and alcohol for example. Both illegal, both bad for you, rather than ban them they are merely heavily taxed. They don't care if its bad for you it's just coincidently profitable for it to be.
