Since our AGM at last year's JAE, the committee has been reviewing the club's policy on the issue of permanent bans to errant members.

Having carefully considered the policy, we are united in the opinion that the notion of a permanet ban from the club is an absolute last resort; and one course of action reserved for when nothing else is appropriate in the circumstances. Hence we have decided to retain the notion of a permanent ban where the action is in the best interests of the club and its membership; as there are already finite bans in place with fixed terms - eg. of 1 week, 1 month, 1 year etc etc.

However we have all agreed that even if a permanent ban has been issued, sometimes some people deserve a second chance. Consequently anyone issued with a permanent ban (past or present) will now be permitted to apply to the committee for their return to the forum after a period of 12 months from the issue of their ban.

It's a bit like parole - one applies to return, the committee takes a vote and lets him or her know. If the application is successful, then the former banned member is permitted back onto the forum on a probationery period of 6 months. Conversely if a person's application is denied; they remain banned - although they are still eligible to apply to have their ban overturned in another 12 months. And so on.....

The present system of appealing against a permanet ban still remains the same - once a member is permanently banned from the club, they have the usual 7 day period to appeal against the committee's decision. As said, a permanent ban is always a last resort; we do not like having to take such drastic action against our members unless we are faced with no alternative option. And whilst the permanent ban does remain in place (when necessary), we are willing to reconsider each individual situation at some point in the future!

Alz.

Soooo will the said banned members receive an email, regarding this?

Cause I guess some may not know this new policy is in place, due to not logging on or speaking to fellow members:blink:

i would of thought it implied from the new rules onwards Dave

EDIT..."past and present" just re-read it

also got to remember, banned members were not done so lightly, great lenghts of discusions and votes and so forth from the comitte were took part of before a ban, this is a review not a reprieve

although some people may have a case for return many dont

Spread the word i guess is the way to go. It is not for us to seek out and contact a banned member to ask if they want to appeal and there are varying reasons and degrees concerning bans and therefore certain banned members' status would remain , depending on the severity of the reason for the ban in the first place.

Still no reason not to appeal, as every case as stated, will be decided on an individual basis.

My learned friends above are dead right!

We have reconsidered the whole concept of the premanent ban system carefully; and this is not a "free for all" resulting in all previously banned members being welcomed back into the club. As Stella says, we have never taken lightly the decision to permanently ban someone from the club; so those who have been removed were done so for good reasons at the time. What this is, is a revamping of the system; the permanent ban system is still in place as a last resort, however the person banned may now reapply to the committee to return to the club after 12 months.

We are not going to be pro-active in contacting previously banned members, like Stella says, it's not our responsibility to do that. This is the internet after all; and we all know that some news travels fast!! So if anyone handed a permanent ban would like to return, all they need do is e-mail me or another committee member (our forum e-mail addresses are publicly available - basically our forum name (at) 300zx.co.uk) and the committee will carefully consider each application, take a vote and advise whether or not their application was successful. Simples!

We appreciate that times, circumstances and sometimes people can change; so we have decided to move with it and offer a second chance when it's appropriate. Some re-applicants may be successful; whilst others may not - depending on the reasons they were banned in the first place.

I think this is a good thing. Like has been said, I'm sure these bans were deliberated over long and hard by the people who decide such things and were only implemented as a last resort. But people do change and given time can mellow or just think before they type. I personally think this is a good decision by the committee. Nice one guys :thumbup1::yinyang:

So when is FunkySi coming back?

he has had so many secind chances i cant keep count, hell i even had a big argument once (in the mod section about one of his bans) but he has took the piss so much and spoilt every second chance that he will be a member i never vote to be back, there was a time where once although most of the time we never got on i would still fight his corner but never again

also some of the shit that was sent to us from another forum that was said about me personally and others that ran this forum and even the forum itself would mean he will never be back, some of the stuff was screen shots of caht pages and some of screen shots of hidden oages that were very rude and nasty and directed towards me and certain members

Good decision. Permanent bans are, well, a bit permanent. Even if it's been a major toy/pram interface situation, usually it's only words and, let's face it, nobody died. Usually. A re-admittance procedure is welcome. I may disagree with someone's opinion but I will defend to the death their right to say it. Unless they don't like stock Zeds.

I personally really liked having FunkiSi here.

How about empowering the club to make decisions? For example, the reason Si was apparently banned was due to complaints from members, so maybe let the members decide on his return? Don't get me wrong, there's possible more to it but in Just using him as an example but for the record I'd vote him allowed to return.

In regards to contacting banned members - we could have club votes then just lift the ban and if they come back then they have access

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

yes you personally just you and a few others enjoyed him, but only because you were not on the end of his constant abuse, you will never get to see some of the compaints i recieved or the rest of the mods recieved about him, he was very personal and very insulting and abused every chance he recieved

what makes it worse is that apperantly he is a nice person away from the keyboard, but that makes it worse for me, im the same infront of the screen and behind it, i am what i am wether people like it or not

it may go to vote but i will be voting no for simon no matter what

apperently he is here under another name but TBH we aint bothered, most banned members are back but when they have to haide who they are it must be more frustrating for them as it is for us trying to find out who is who

I personally really liked having FunkiSi here.

The forum policy has to be in the hands of the Committee to make the best move forwards for the club and while we like and encourage members points of view which will be taken into account in the end we are held responsible for the well being of 300zx.co.uk.

Well I like him and have been on the end of insults/bluntness. For example telling me how stupid my old exhaust looked - like a fookin wheel barrow and all that... But I just took it as good jest. And that's how I felt it was meant.

I still think he's a good guy but you're right, ill never see whatever you know, but can only comment on what little I do know. So I still like him lol
