whoops turbo mistake.....

So a zed in the workshop this week was in for cambelt and other work including sorting the leaking exhaust sound.

The zed had been treated to a couple if turbo`s prior to arriving at us, the owner had bravely removed the engine removed and refitted the turbo`s after refitted the engine did not fancy tackling the cambelt.

So after the cambelt was done the exhaust sound led us to the near side turbo and a little look down there with the battery removed revealed a little mistake when the turbo was refittted.

Was a little surprised to see that the tab bracket that should be under the nuts was actually between the flange of the exhaust manifold and the turbo body, little chance a seal could be made.

Unfortunately no alternative but the turbo had to be removed, with the down pipe and turbo elbow removed the issue can be seen more clearly, and with the turbo whipped off the sooty manifold leak can be seen.

The owner was suitable peed when it was found what the problem was, a bugger when you make a mistake yourself, oh and he is ok with me posting it here.

oopps...made your job a little easier Jeff not trying to bend the back 2 tabs up for nut removal though :thumbup1:

As i said to Jeff, Its probaley best not to drink to much larger whilst doing jobs on the car. hey im no machanic, i took that engine out all by myself sent the tubs away to get sorted and put it all back together again. And thats the only mistake ive made. Oh that and putting the wrong fluid in. Not bad i think when most garages didnt want to touch it and the only thing that dont work now is the bloody ariel. I also think its a good way to get to know your zed. I have done extensive rot repair and completly rebuilt the back bit, replaced the petrol tank and fuel filler. changed the body with a kit which ive also changed and fitted a large fmic. and huge k&n air filter and after market oil cooler. done the psv valve things. Just got to finsh the bodywork then its over to the paint shop in begining of August.

yes well nearly in norwich its in newton st faiths. I used to own two bodyshops years ago one in norwich and one in long stratton, so ive being around the ones i feel will do what i aske and how i want it. I am very fussey and its got to be right. he has already painted my brothers corvett and he hits all the right points. he has also painted a couple of test parts like my center bit that goes between the headlight, and his prices are good. what you after doing to yours chap?

I will need to repair the bottom of the bumper on mine then get it sprayed along with the stone chips on the front end of the side skirts. That's all down the line though, the main reason I'm asking is because I've been helping my girlfriends brother and dad restore a '74 AMV8. Her brother is incredibly particular with paintwork so it would be good to give him some recommendations from someone who knows the trade. I used S R Car body repairs on Ivy Road a couple of months ago when I dented and scratched the wing of the truck on a low post whilst reversing. I'd had two quotes of £550 from big repair centres then got recommended Steve and he only charged me £200 and its perfect!
