Hi all I'm new to the club and I'm after my first zed! I've been offered one from word of mouth at £1800 which is a TT auto 88000 miles, no service history and is completely standard and its only about a 90min drive from where I am. However I've just seen another on the net that looks a lot smarter with better mileage and a bit more MOT and TAX and its a manual which I would defiantly prefer. Its right at the top end of my budget and its in Dorset, which is a bit of a drive from where I live. Is the latter the better sounding option?

Hi Acraig, do you have the website address where you have seen the one in Dorset?

Maybe someone will know the car....

Thanks for the help people and its generous of you to offer to go and see it!

My opinion....

...Forget mileage mate. Unless the car has genuine, continuous, service history to prove it; assume it's been clocked. Also even if mileage is genuine, don't rule out high milers as they will most likely have had most of the expensive major replacements done already. Whereas lower mileage cars are fast approaching the time for such work....!!

Buy on over all condition; sound bodywork (a ZX will be 13-23 years old now), no rust, tidy paint. Then move on to the engine/turbos/gear box.

Looks very nice, but seems a little over priced to me.

One thing I would say is, make sure you check underneath for corrosion, particularly rear sills and arches to name but a few.

Mechanical issues are fairly few and far between if it' been maintained, but corrosion can be a killer.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Looks nice but be careful with zeds with body kits as they can hide rust problems on the sills.

Never had a car with a body kit so would I be able to see the sills if I was to get down and have a look, or with an inspection mirrors? Or do the skirts cover the sills completely?

Good question Adam but I never had one with a body kit either lol but I think the sills will be hard to see as I remember a few threads on here with members taking the sill kit of to find a lot of rust so be warned mate.

Ah crap ok cheers Gary ill be sure to ask the question before I do a 3 1/2 drive lol

This one is not so far from you

Went and had a look with a friend - got the guy down to around £2200 but personally thought it was worth more like £1500 (which actually we offered)

I had a good look as best I could under this one, knowing where the rust problems are because mine cost last year £700 to get the sills and floor pan solid before I fitted the body kit.

The car does not appear to have corrosion problems and was MOTd 2 months ago but needs replacement front seats IMHO (posssible to pick some up one here) and really wants a respray to get it tip top. Having said that it's a daily runner and sounds sweet enough

If you really wanna have a good look at a Z in the 'flesh' to see what can be done with some time and money (I payed 2k for my car originally) then you are not too far away for me to take a run over on a warm afternoon as long as I can get the targas off of course lol
