i daren't ask the guys at work as i'll get no end of stick if i got another broken zed.

but i've noticed a strange noise on my Na, its always there from cold, and still there after long journeys.

under load i get a strange rattle, i since serviced the zed, (done everything) its running lovely, nice and smooth, and quick. but still making the noise, its quite a raspy noise, (been there before and after i changed the entire exhaust system.)

it also makes a different noise on over-run, which is much quieter but is more like a metallic vibration, dip the clutch and it goes away,

any ideas? i was thinking heat shield rattle or prop, does this sound possible?

im taking it apart tomorrow to fit the headers, which is the last part of the zed with heat shields on,

when it was serviced last weekend, i properly flushed the oil system, and fitted with good oil and extra additives,

thanks for the help again guys...:thumbup1:

i've got a similar noise developing on mine.. used to be under load only, but I sometimes hear it on idle.

i swear its coming from around the air con pump/pulley, but i'm not 100% without stripping her down.

has anyone else had anything like this?

kjz32 cured a noise like this, it was a faulty air con unit. See his post on "what have you done to your Z today" thread.

If it is your a/c compressor, turn off the a/c and the noise should go away - that happened to my Zed after I first had it regassed. One replaceent compressor fitted by Jeff (and another re-gas) and it stopped making the noise....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If when u dip the clutch it goes must be something on the clutch,,

the prop will still be spinning so unlikely that.

hope u get it sorted...

arrggghhhh must read properly, so it could be something on the engine etc, cause your dipping the clutch on overrun and it stops.

but still prop will spin constantly,

unfortunately its not the a/c,

its not on, and theres not belt on my ac unit, i've AMS pulleys and forgot to buy the correct size ac belt.

was only thinking if the prop bearing was on the way out, under load its under most stress, and under engine braking (over run) its also under extra stress.

im thinking if the cars free rolling with the clutch down the props not under a lot of stress so noise would stop,

please someone correct me if i've got this wrong, its just a thought.

Its worth checking mate,

But id say more likely something on the engine side and when u dip the clutch revs drop and noise stops.

can u get any noise from it when in neutral and car is not moving

  • Author

no no noise whatsoever with it in neutral, or just clutch down, even in the air with the wheels spinning theres no noise, its only under load, and engine braking.

sounds like a typical zed fault, where u need to be under the bugger why its doing it.

hope u get it sorted,

If the prop bearing goes pissy, it's more a vibration through your arse than a rattle, I'd be looking at the clutch thrust bearing, if the noise goes when the clutch is dipped. Post a video up if possible matey.
