So, after a good outing to Japfest last weekend, and a good run, I come to use the Zed yesterday and...nothing. Absolutely nothing.

In this I mean, the Zed won't start.

The alarm pings correctly, and when I put the key in to start up, I am reading 12.4v and all the gauges/instrument panel come on (including the battery light and exclamation mark as usual), but that is it when I turn the key. No sound of starter motor, fuelling, engine. Nothing, then within a second the TT comes on to count down its 30 seconds. Then the alarm kicks in as usual. I did notice also that when I tried to alarm/disalarm the alarm, it beeped at me four times on the disalarm.

So, I am thinking four things and thought I would get some advice off you experts on here!

1) New battery required.

2) New starter motor required.

3) The alarm/immobiliser.

4) Something has fused.

I have checked the fuses I can in the engine bay and found nothing. I trickle charged it all night to boost the battery a bit, but this has not changed anything when I tried to start it again today. Frustrating!

So, any ideas anyone?

Cheers,

Greg

Well the first thing to do is start with the obvious, charge the battery fully and retry, test the battery. The starter will click away if the battery isn't fully charged or do nothing is flat flat. Does anything else work lights etc? Other than that id be looking at the immobiliser etc. That car certainly has some electrical gremlins.

Yep I agree

Charge battery even if starter is dead should still click

Immobiliser maybe not turning off with the alarm this sounds like most likely to me

Yes, the immobilise could be part of it, as I cannot hear anything actually doing anything, if that makes sense. I had the gremlins sorted or so I thought!

Might be worth disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting just in case the alarm/ immobiliser has thrown a wobbly, it should reset it then.

Also, alarm seems OK - as it should - four times beeping was door open (passenger door sometimes is not close properly (nudge to the Mrs there!).

So, how to check the immobiliser? I plan to borrow a fully charged battery tomorrow to see if it makes the difference...

Car alarms can and do get corrupted by low battery levels, it could be just that, the four beeps suggests something other than normal so bet the immobiliser has defaulted to stop engine start in case of tamper threat.
