I posted at the start of this month i had bought a SWB N/a with a naff engine and was planning on doing a TT swap among other things and general tinkery stuffs.... ( BTW i bought this with a Big end Bearing gone.....)

Well i started to strip her down and upon removing the R/h Wing i found this abomination!

Then obviously having to remove the engine and planning on stripping the underside i start removing the engine beginning with the Fluids and find a certain something peeping out the sump! (the dipstick i knew about when buying the car and the look on the owners face when i asked him where the rest of it was was priceless)

This next one isnt detrimental but i thought, at least I've gained something so far from buying this.....

Now for my favorite surprise ive had yet...

Not finished yet as i need to cover it with some material which will pack out the edges. Also the top of the battery is cable tied just because they were flapping everywhere and annoying me.

More to come soon.

well to be honest it never had one, i did expect it to have one but it would have been deleted if it did so its saved me a job.

oh and you can see how small the battery is im using to run this. Its coped extremely well so far after all the ECU checkouts and problems. I think its a keeper ;)

  • Author

cheers joel, it will be strengthened first as its fairly wobbly at the mo and then covered...the battery and PS pump will be boxed in and the pump will have plenty of sound deadening as it is a pump after all..

Surprised there was none there I thought all SWB Z's had them. :confused1: So no hole for the water on the near side rear arch?

Nope, no washer bottle for me. some ive seen look out of place and a bit of an eye sore, but yours looks quite neat.

My '89' spec is the same as yours Gary, I bet it was done like this to help keep the balance of the car being shorter, but I also bet it cost more at the factory so later in life it was moved back to the engine bay like all LWB versions as part of the cost cutting measures that Nissan implemented later in the cars life.

Does this SWB also have manual climate controls?

Cheers Stephen,

I still need to fill the box with some form of sound deadening. I was going to use dynamat but was actually tempted by covering everything in foil and using expanding foam, then boring the inside out a little to stop head buildup. A little OTT though.

  • Author

I was going to initially but as the measurements are so tight i cant actually get the template over the battery so it has to be in place before the battery, now if it had a box on top it wouldnt really work.

Later on when i have time to throw away i will probably widen the aperture so it can slot over it but for the time being i will be adding a proper battery tie down and thats it.
