this i a new one on me, my other half has given me an unwanted gift. its an asus laptop, running windows 7, has intel atom, full hd. etc. its very fast, but my question is can i run consult on it, or datascan. what do i need, i know i need a 14 plug that i can connect to the car, i have seen a few on ebay, that have cd, leads and other bits.

what do i need on the laptop and what do i need on the software.

Give me engines, or plumbing or carp stuff any day. Im totally lost

I know when I bought Data Scan 1, I had to make sure that my old IBM laptop had a 9 pin serial port.

They may do different cable connections now though.

I'm running Datascan on windows 7, Conzult will not run on windows 7 due to compatibility problems. Also i'm using a USB lead for datascan this works fine.

Use a cheap USB-Serial converter if need be (eBay). My mapping laptop has every port going, but I still need more than one port for Nissan & Power FC jobs.

both the free version and the pay versions are available on their web site... type Conzult in a search engine.. :)

The free versions only give you very limited info...its the conzult interface lead thats the daddy and driving force of the system and this cant be got on its own to be used with free versions.Danny from DTA used to sell the whole system and now DTA from holland sell them but ive sent them 5 emails about a purchase and not had 1 reply:huh:

I'd be up for buying in bulk. I'd need a USB really though for my newer laptop. I could put it on the old one though if you can't get them

I could be interested in a group buy, but only have usb ports on my laptop, so I think that means I can't use Conzult. Is this right?

its the serial one..but the real deal DTA lead has some kind of black box in the lead and it must comunicate encryption codes with the software. I have a fully licensed DTA program but theres no generic lead out there to get it to give me all the consult options to work right hence my search for the original DTA lead.

I thought I read a while back that a serial/usb converter causes problems with the program, I may be wrong though.

Conzult software works fine on windows 7 (x64/x32), usually the problem is caused by the (driver for) cable.

Older type laptops with a genuine RS232 port work best, although if you need a USB type cable/converter, best is to choose one that has a FTDI chipset.

The cheaper (ebay/chinese) cables/converters mostly use other chipsets and can have all sorts of weird problems or don't work at all.
