the ones i've seen look really tacky on a zed, but i cant talk when i've got the funds im getting an VIS vented carbon bonnet from the states,

thers loads on the AUS and US sites who've fitted vents, or vented bonnets

It seems to cause electrical gremlins, and im sure I read somewhere that the engine bay is designed to allow hot air to circulate up and over, not create a hot pocket. If you stance the bonnent or make holes in it you stop that circulation.

Form over function! Unless the car needs it for additional cooling and the vent location is proven to help, then your adding extra drag to the airflow and as z32 bolt said, could be opening up reliability issues by doing the opposite of what they are designed to achieve!

Plenty of good looking mods available without chopping the bonnets smooth looks.

always wondered what if it rains? where would the water go? would it not leak into the engine bay?

gday kiff

thanks that what I was thinking of doing and saves £500 on a new bonnet, cools the engine quicker!!! great bay by the way mate:biggrin:

Yep form over function...no problems in OZ with Rain most of the year, in the Uk the standing water's going to drip on to the battery looking at those vents!, all said top job and finish.

On the Zed I recently bought, it has three vents (two side like the above and one middle larger one). It has caused many electrical problems and so I have no choice but to cover the car or keep it in the garage. It's a pain really so I will be swapping it back to a normal bonnet at some point in the future.

any front facing scoops will make the heat issue worse as forward running air stops any heat escaping by ram effect...But iff the holes or scoops are put on the back side then air rushes over the top and creates a low air pressure point directly behind the bulge just like a top edge of a wing thus "sucking" hot air out from the underside.

That's heat extraction for the intercooler and/ or rad I think? Would be a closed channel from the engine. Remember the GT40 using bonnet scoops to expidite the air from the bonnet mounted rads.

yes thats right it lets the heat out of the bonnet from intercooler and rad which does get hot indeed . Bonnet is raised up at the back to allow engine heat out along with various bits of ducting under the skin . Bonnet is a genuine nissan item with all the web removed from underneath making it lightweight .maybe not everyones cup of tea but it is a drifter although i do use it as everyday car aswell

I got moaned at for raising the back of the bonnet. Got told it doesn't need it and kept getting told my bonnet doesn't fit lol

Looks wise I also prefer the smooth bonnet of the standard car, but I think that style of vents on KIFFs car dont look too out of place as they are are similar in design to the intercooler vents on the standard 89 bumper. Sometimes vents etc. can spoil the look when they are too out of style with the rest of the car

Have you got any pics of the bonnet closed?

P.S. Love the finish on the radiator cowl/throttle cover/cam cover

My new TT has vents in the bonnet, hasn't caused any issues yet. Although still not sure if I like them or not.

Ahh you bought that one :) belonged to the bloke who owns the house next to mine, well for about a week lol. What's it like condition wise? When I saw it it was gleaming and one of the tidiest around!

well a zed engine generates alot of heat if its being used to spin the rear tyres the whole time so raising the bonnet for this reason is better than blowing it up because it got to hot .better safe than sorry and that way water doesnt get all over electrics . guess if your going for the show look then a perfect fitting polished bonnet would be the way forward and look nice but this car isnt show car . i have got a bonnet with one of them z centre buldges but never really liked the look so its kicking around in the garage at mo along with the million other zed parts in there

Its not too bad to be fair, it needs the rear of the sills repairing but my mate is going to be doing that in the next couple of weeks. needs a few other small jobs doing like new windscreen, couple of bits of interior trim needs replacing, coil pack connectors replaced etc. But for the price I paid for it, can't really grumble. Just a shame its an auto, but I do still have the gearbox and other parts needed for a conversion from my n/a :)
