On the way home from work just now, a fooking deer jumped out of the forest in front of me. I was doing about 60 but braked hard and, whilst I still hit the bloody thing, at least I shaved my speed down to about 35....

.....The deer ran back into the woods but when I got home, I noticed that my NS headlamp has been pushed back about an inch - snapping the mounting brackets completely. The gap at the front of the NSF wing has widened by about 5mm - but that is due to the headlamp being forced back. It looks like it will revert to the normal position once the head lamp is replaced; and luckily there is no paint damage save for a very small scuff on the front bumper which will easily polish out.

So I am not happy - and no doubt a new xenon headlamp is going to cost a fortune (any ideas PaulC...?), not to mention MB's labour:angry:

Still, could have been worse I guess.

Cheers guys.....

....And yes Vods; I was in the Merc mate! Just been over on ebay and found a used xenon lamp for £195; there's no ballast or bulb but the seller says my old ones can be shifted over. I'll pop into the bodyshop who fitted my Stillen lip to the ZX in the morning to see what they say before I get raped by MB...LOL

So maybe it won't be too bad. I guess it's payback for me eating one of his mates the other week....

Hi bud - it could work out to be quite a deer repair :blushing:

sometimes Merc do a repair kit for headlamps to replace broken brackets however - not sure on your model. PM me your VIN & will take a look on the parts computer.

Xenon headlamps are usually around £6-700 per lamp :pinch:

Well, I picked the car up today and was left £883 lighter in the wallet department.....

......the headlamp was more damaged than I originally thought, once they took it out; so it definitely needed replacing (I have the old one back for spares - bulbs and ballasts are expensive). Plus when I saw it in daylight, I noticed that the lower grill and left hand foglight trim were also broken. Still at least nothing else was damaged; the paintwork was fine and the excessive gap between the front wing and bonnet disappeared and returned to normal once the broken light was pulled out. Could have been a lot worse - and certainly not worth claiming on my insurance for!!
