Came across this, personally I wouldn't bother after doing it with the engine out as theres a few bolts that will be a dick after 20 years of not moving. Anyways a nice clear and simple guide.

http://www.atri.se/nikoz/z/turbos.html

 i would ,nt even consider it for a nano second

I'm if you take that much off you might aswell just pull the block, an extra hour and less heartache, cuts and bruises

Much easier to just pull the block and you can be sure that the new tubs are seated properly and torqued up correctly.

Ive changed both turbos with engine in, on a couple of zeds, the workshop manual says to do it with engine in.

Drivers side u remove brake master cylinder and the shaft for the steering.

And I found this the easiest of the 2,

Passanger side remove actuator and water oil feeds to get on all the bolts.

I also took out the radiator and all the pipes at front so could get round engine easier, I have no aircon I deleted it which gives me more room too.

But other zed I did had aircon and worked around it with no problems.

Think the biggest problem is, its easy enough if everything is not seized get some bits seized and its a nightmare, also tools make a big difference if there good quality or crap.

Drivers side on my car I did on a ramp, but couldn't finish car on ramp so did passager on the floor, but have a lot of tools has i work has a mechanic and could use garage tools if anything I didn't have. Silly things like air ratchets make big difference in tight places..

I can do a clutch on mine easy in a few hrs, went to do it on my cousin car exhaust bolts all snapped everything seized was on it drilling things etc for couple days.

Think it all depends on the car..

Also some say take engine out repair other bits why your there which is best way if u have the cash, but im pretty poor lol and buying a set of turbos on its own is easier said then done let alone replacing half the other stuff around it.

Pulling the engine half the looms break cause there brittle etc..

But saying this I've pulled my engine this time and replacing turbos and rebuilding engine slowly.

Now I've had engine out a few times can have it on the floor easy in couple hrs, so would more likely be quicker and easier to do in the long run..

The other thing is I have an hoist at home now which before I didn't. So taking engine out at home is not allways an easy option.

Good luck with it..

The chap that did it corrected himself later, saying that there was no need to remove the plenum etc. But yeah I agree, for the heartache its gotta be easier to just pull off the connectors and undo the box and subframe and pull the darn thing, you were there lol you know what a knob getting them off the manifold is out the car.

U aint gotta touch subframe I never have when pulling engine, if its auto leave the box has it is just take starter of and unbolt the torque. The manual I take box off.

Ive removed engine and refitted engine with box still on in one lump but jacked up back of car to get the angle I want.

Never undone subframe.

Its manual mate, I'm not pulling it(I hope, I don't need to, ive only just put it back in!) we did mine by leaving the box in the car, I cant remember why.

fitted my motor with the auto box. Just got to get the car angled right with enough room for the box to go down then back up as you push back..its tight with the driver side turbo getting past the steering shaft but once over that hurdle it falls in.
