Gt25 hybrids and true Gt28 turbos

Am I right to understand that essentially when you hybrid the t25 to make one of those t25/28 that a few people use, that essentially what you do is use the t25 core which is the same in the t25/28 etc range, with a t28 front compressor wheel, a bored out t25 front housing and a t25 rear housing? Because looking at the t25 exhaust housing I cannot see how you can bore it out any larger to fit the larger wheel.

I understand they produce less power than a genuine gt28, I assume this is because your not using the exhaust housing and rear compressor so cannot achieve the same effect.

If you switch over to true t28s the exhaust housing is 5 bolt? So that would require different downpipes, and relocation of the actuator as they aren't designed to be where they are on the t28 as the t25s are clocked for the zed.... anyone care to educate me?

the only item thats t28 is the main core ... the exhaust and comp covers would remain the same .. just recut to take the bigger turbine wheels ..

how ever this all so has draw backs as the Flow rate will be restricted to the Original covers ... the t28 tub will have bigger exhaust and comp housings

its a good upgrade for 90% of drivers out there but not a true turbo

All turbos that are sold on the shelf are set to a standard ... only cars on V engine twin tub have there tubs clocked to suit the car ..

to buy Original T28s you will need

5 bolt turbo down pipes

Passenger side will need clocked to 70* and a new Act Mount making at a 45* angle

Right, whats the drawback on the hybrids? And what sort of damage would you expect for 28s?

hybrids 1200quid there abouts about 2k for the Proper items

drawback .... Performance outdated spec ... " Standard journal type bearing " Depending on who does the hybrid

you can get 4 hole to 5 hole adaptors...saw them on ebay the other day

oh right proper ones are bb tubs? that's better journals are as you say a bit old school.

yeah seen them thats for the manifold in side ... not exhaust side :)

even if u did have other turbos with bigger flange that needed them still wouldnt fit due to the clearance on the sub-frame and other items around

tbh I was looking at my dps an thinking if its the same placement and they are large enough.. it would be dead easy to just get a new flange waterjet cut, cut off the old one with a slitting disc and weld on the new one.

T28 are journal bearing ( normally used on hybrids and about every OEM turbo on the market )

GT28 are Twin Ball Bearing Share the same Housings as older type

GTX28 are Twin Ball Bearing with Billet comp wheel and bigger Housings

hrm that's what I thought, I spose really then the choice sensibly would be building hybrids or getting hold of some of these from the states.

which with the required 550cc injectors would end up costing about the same as the tubs alone here...

well its $4095 + $400 Tub BB + $350 shipping = $4845 = £3300 + 25% duty/vat = £4125 there abouts
