  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

The weather was that bad on Friday night in to Saturday morning that I actually feared going to sleep! 8 man tent was going sideways and breaking carbon poles etc.. Ended up binning the tent before we left.

As for the car, I've changed the coil pack, checked the spark plug which was dry, checked injector wire and no problems there. Just one injector isn't clicking.. Has to be the injector.

The one thing that is confirming it is stuck closed is the fuel leak that started on the fuel rail. The jubilee weren't too tight but no leaks until the misfire started. Excess pressure in the rail due to the closed injector...

Going back to get it sorted as soon as possible.

what i have found is the shear lack of space in the bay it really is a pain to work on if its wasnt for that it would be ok . i mite buy a supra next loads of space in the bay

That's a real shame, at least you tried there will be many better shows for all of us to meet at. Good luck fixing the car never give up.

Why would a closed injector give rise to excess fuel pressure?

Why would a closed injector give rise to excess fuel pressure?

I'm making an assumption that the fuel pressure is kept at a constant the level by the usage of the engine. As the injectors use the fuel at a certain rate determined by the throttle position and ecu setting etc, if one injector stops injecting, the fuel usage will drop and therefore increase the amount of fuel in the lines adding excess pressure? Like running a hose and putting your thumb over the end, the pressure increases as consumption is restricted?

Wouldn't the fuel pressure regulator just siphon the unused fuel back to the tank? Not necessarily increasing the pressure?

The job of the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) is to maintain the fuel pressure in the fuel rail at a constant 43.4psi

whilst the engine is running.

But doesn't that use information from the ecu in order to regulate?

They work via a pressure Spring, with the fuel pump having to supply enough pressure/fuel to overcome the spring pressure

Ah OK.. Well I just assumed that as the leak appeared just after the injector packed up, the two may have been related

It could be. I wouldn't think it'd just be a coincidence, maybe your FPR is bad and the pressure is different, but more than one injector would be bad if that were the case..

Have you done any diagnostics yet? Such as Ohm testing the injectors and ensuring the circuit it there from the ECU? How did you conclude its the injector not providing fuel as aposed to a no spark fault?

I changed the coil pack, checked injector plug, checked the wiring from plug to loom which was recently replaced. Checked the spark plug which was bone dry and also listened with a screwdriver to the full set of injectors. All of them were clicking quite healthily except the one on number 6 which was so faint that I'm sure it was just the noise from the one on cylinder 4. No fuel smell from exhaust and conzult power balance test flagging red on 6 and no change in revs when cylinder 6 drops out on test.

Good, that's a fair but covered. Ohm test the injector next. When you say you checked the connector what did this comprise of?

Did anyone else get an email yesterday from the JAE organisers?

I did, and it basically said "the weather and turnout have been a bit crap this year, so why not come down on Sunday and just pay £15...?"

Had a bit of a chuckle as I deleted it.....

JAE 2016 has been one of the wettest in recent memory but now the rain has stopped and the sun is trying to break through. The off-road 4x4 has certainly been exciting - a lot of puddles and a whole lot of fun! This year's IKO has been curtailed but we will replace that with a Sunday morning special of IKO, fun and car shows. The 2016 Show n Shine has been the best ever, held indoors for the first time.

For Sunday we now have general access available. £15 on the gate and concessions for under 12s who still get in for free. 4x4 tickets are still available as ever at £20.

Come and join the fund - Sunday looks to be dry and we still have plenty to entertain those who missed out today. See you at JAE 2016!

Well they didn't see me on Sunday and I'd already paid for it..

I left there on Saturday afternoon and nursed my z home again.. I'm really hacked off with not having the car working again after all the missed time over the summer, not to mention the financial crisis I'm in at the moment aswell.

Honestly felt like putting a match to it this weekend. Anyway, I'm now on the lookout for new injectors, nothing fancy, just a new set of 370cc stock ones. If anyone knows where I can get these as cheaply as possible can you let me know.

I've checked out the Web and cheapest I've found are around £90 each for jecs ones but I'm sure they'll work out more once import tax and shipping costs go on top. Seriously needing to ask myself if I can really afford to keep this car now..

I'm sold....NOT! Sounds even worse than it normally does!

I kept the car running and moved the connector around to make sure it wasn't a loose connection, applied pressure to the plug to make sure it hadn't lifted off its position etc. No point in removing it to check for green because Lee Dent put plugs on the loom in July and the car has hardly been used since so I know it's not a connection issue. He cut the loom where it had a problem with a break on the loom and rewired a new set of injector harness in.

The injectors he installed along with rail were used ones but good condition and as I said before, the car was running beautifully. It was running great on start up Saturday morning and after driving it less than a mile, it started to run on five.

I had noticed a petrol smell from the exhaust the day before but just assumed it was due to the new exhaust being straight through. If I didn't have to grind the plenum to get access to the screw for injector 6, I may have taken it out and swapped it for a spare I have but saying that, I'm not sure the spare is the same size as it's a red cap.

I'm not in a position to pull the plenum as I don't have a gasket to replace it and would rather give it back to Lee as he has the knowledge that I don't and in my current mood I'm more likely to attack the motor with a pick axe than a spanner..

msg for NemisizX (Paul)

I have a370cc injector ur welcome to for free!

At least I think its a 370, def not the normal stock & not a 500cc

Ill check when home this pm

Don't let it get you down Paul, we've all been at this point and no doubt will again, if it's hitting your finances and family life too hard, park it up until you can get going at it again mate. I had hoped mine would be running for last June, but due to health and finances the car is now pushed back to May of next year. I chip away at expensive parts, I can order bits with CZP and then pay it off bit by bit until it's ready to ship, Get them to leave the shipping for a week or two and then the shipping time (usually another week) gives me time to scrape up any customs charges. If you're stuck for an injector, I can pull a couple off my old fuel rail if it helps you out?

Don't give up hope though:thumbup1:

Its just a suggestion..... but before you condemn the injector maybe you could use a Noid light to check whether you are getting a firing signal to that injector??

Its probably the first quick check that Lee would do.

It doesnt tell you about the quality of the signal but it will show whether there is a signal going to the injector.

Noid light? Never heard of one of those?? Is it like a timing light or is it specific to injection?
