  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

If someone's going to do it.....!

Hopefully he will put a bit of a Friday night vid of everything working together??

Just had 4 new tyres fitted - which was interesting, watching the guys carefully squeezing the jack under the car, in order to lift it by the chassis....

.......And now I'm going to give it a wash. 3 weeks of daily use has left it a little dirty:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Went to get my bad weather car mot'd today and it passed! It started me thinking about the Z.. Mot due at the beginning of may, I figured I best get it checked over so I have time to source and save for any parts and labour it may need. As the spare car passed, I asked if the guy had time to check it over on a pre Mot. He had a free slot so I took the Z down and anxiously waited for the news...

Just after I'd paced a small indentation in the concrete outside, smoked 20 cigarettes and rubbed my head a lot, the Mot guy announces, there's a couple of bits needing attention!

Just as the disappointment began to drape over me, in his next breath he says but, if you don't mind losing the month or so I can print up a test pass as the pre Mot costs the same as the Mot..

He said that the rear upper passenger side suspension bush had a little play, the front driver side steering tie bar also had a little play and I have an oil leak on the driver side rocker cover... Other than that he said it was obviously a garaged car as it was one of the cleanest he'd ever tested! :w00t:

All in all very happy.. Two Mot passes in one day? That's a record for me! FB_IMG_1456574359011.jpg

So, time to order up some parts and book her in to get the oil leak sorted...

You going to have to replace the rocker cover gasket?

[emoji780][emoji845] No, I think he'll replace the rear right strut top gasket. [/condescendingreplymode]

Depending on wether it's intake or exhaust there may be now gasket to replace.

You going to have to replace the rocker cover gasket?

Possibly, but it might be the lower cover so as far as I'm aware they're just sealed with gadget sealant. The inner ones have a gasket I know, but fairly certain the outer ones don't..

That's correct. It's usually the lower ones that leak as well. Plenum off job that.

Thanks for clarifying.

Yup, plenum off for most jobs on this engine huh! I'm gonna keep an eye on the oil levels and try and hold off the job until my under bonnet dressings are ready for fitting. I'll be having the plenum changed for the gold one along with the red rocker covers etc and all the deletes too, I can get it all done in one hit. I'm tempted to do it myself but the thought of all those pipes under the plenum and the pita getting them on and off just says, take it to the pro's..

Drove to Lee's yesterday to drop Purple Haze off for cavity wax, Speedo conversion/delimiter, final tweak to dash lights and general health check.

As usual, mods were offered, one being a candy purple powder coated plenum and rocker covers, should I? Anyone have a link or photos of powder coated plenum in situ, so I can see how this looks, I'm mightily tempted but wanna see what it would look like first :-) it kinda blows the OEM theme outta the window thougth.

Glad you're not getting a bright green one

I think a purple plenum would look nice... It doesn't really matter if your going for 100% OEM or not, it's your car so do whatever mods you think will make your experience better. Of course that may still mean you want to keep it original, but don't restrict yourself to your own limitations if you would prefer to have a fancy engine bay.

Depends what colour you have phutumsch did his a nice gun metal grey and it looks the biz. He removed all the casting marks first so a smooth finish and surrounded by all his chrome work it looks great. But would look just as good in an oem style bay. Candy purple would look good if you then went to town on other components but it's up to you I think it wouldn't look right if it's the only thing you powder coat.

Zebedee is the star behind the camera today being filmed by a nice chap I met through Cars And Coffee Liverpool. I will reveal more when it's all done and dusted.

Actually I agree, if you just have a powder coated plenum it might look out of place without extra shiney trim pieces.

If you (bedzee) give me a nice picture of your engine bay I can Photoshop a purple plenum on if you want to see what it looks like.

Stuff the oem... It's been oem all this time Chris, if you like it, change it! What's under the bonnet isnt gonna change the outside is it?

Powder coated plenum looks great and you can continue the detailing work with colour coded nuts and bolts, coil pack brackets, power steering pot etc, etc...

It's your choice in the end mate but i love nothing more than to see a well dressed engine bay...

I say go for it!

Hey Chris, here's an example.. Couldn't give purple but it'll give you an idea..

Personally, I'd not go with the same colour on both the plenum and the rockers.. But it's you're choice mate.. Contrasting is the key me thinks.. I'd have the plenum or the rockers and contrast with something like chrome rockers under the purple plenum or vice versa.. Just think too much of the same colour laid over eachother will just make it PURPLE! In your face rather than allowing the purple to pop against something..

Again though, yours is the choice..

If you want the rockers and would like to choose a different colour for a plenum, I've got a plenum in my workshop going spare and I've a coaters up the road that are ace mate..

I think jaikai's old car had a purple plenum, but that one looks too vivid and funky for me.

Thanks All, Paul, Ali, great advice and the photos giving me a good example. I'm going to have a think, I already have chrome water pipes and would like to make the bay look cooler ( if that's possible) but don't wanna go overboard. I guess if go for the plenum, I've gotta go a lot further to make it all fit in. So, on that note, I'm gonna mull it over :-) will keep you posted, and thanks again everyone.

I did this yesterday afternoon - and decided to try yet another wax.....! I have been using a couple of Valet Pro products lately; and after being thoroughly impressed with their Beading Marvelous Wax, I bought some of their "Classic Gloss Protection" wax. It was in the sale at one of the online suppliers I use. What a result - again I am impressed!!

It goes on easily, although you have to stick with a single panel at a time, or else it gets a bit harder to buff off. But it leaves a nice wet-look finish and is very smooth to the touch. Lovely - and all for £12.......

Went to the cars and coffee meet in Liverpool with Mr Mogsy. Great event, many very nice cars. Car of the day for me had to be the Black F40 though.

Then went for a drive through the tunnel to Birkenhead and back with the targas off..... What a sound!!

Finally managed to get the TT running again - the cat collapsed in on itself last october and it's sat stranded on the driveway till the other day.

Cut out two holes to relieve the pressure and cranked it over - started on the key. It's now up on stands and spend yesterday ripping off the exhaust back to the downpipes.

I'm in two minds whether to replace the downpipes as well or just do from their back - it took 4 hours to get to where i am now and broke all 6 studs in the process - fear is i would end up breaking the studs on the turbo then drilling them out would be a nightmare :/

Next weekend back on with it....
