  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

An update on my zed for those interested.

You may remember I tried to do a quick overhaul before I went to the falklands in November. Well I did manage it but that's not the end of the story.

I had kind use of a mate's garage and a month to get it done, I forget exactly what I did but to solve a crap idle and vac leak sonewhere I pulled the plenum and did some deletes, replaced everything with new red sfs hoses, replaced the fuel injectors, fitted a new wiring dynamics harness, new s2 ptu, water sensors... and... and... and...

I did a lot to it.

It took a bit of shakedown to get it to run, as it had a new IACV AAC as well as the rest, it had a few leaks after a couple of heat cycles loosened some bolts, but then it worked

Then on the first successful drive, at the top of third gear it put on the battery and ABS lights. This is what you get when you throw the alternator belt by the way! I got it into the garage within 6 minutes by which time the oil temperature was at 118 degrees and the heaters stopped working (PANIC) I shut her off, had a little cry and went to the falklands.

Over the last 3 days I have spent 28 hours on the car (Yes it took me that long, a lot of stuff was 25 years in place and I had to go and find a bearing puller on a sunday) anyway I have replaced the waterpump, it was this that seized and threw the belt, new water hoses and belts and it is up and running. 40 miles without a problem. It is absolutely mega, all the work I have done, it runs like a sewing machine.

I am absolutely committed to the car, as long as I am alive so will it be. If it burns down to leave a pile of glass and 4 alloy wheels, I will rebuild it.

Thanks for reading,

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?179976-Happy-Birthday-tomfromthenorth

Pulled the battery put of mine and put it on charge ready for the first fire up since October.

I've collated all my new suspension parts, and the subframe I just stripped out of a breaker and I'm now ready (18 months later than planned) to start on the list of work I want to do.

I've ummed and ahed about selling up and walking away, but I seem to have a new bit of energy towards working on the car again. So it's safe for this summer at least!

Finally relocated the battery to the boot at the cost of the skin on my knuckles and removed the old rusty battery tray.

So much more room for activities!

Removed the front seats belts from my Z, took them to Safety Belt Systems in Bedford for new recoil mechanism and new webbing. They should both fly up and down as they did when the car was brand new!

The recoil mech was jambing intermittently, so thought it best to get it sorted. Should feel nice with new webbing too. New webbing is far more supple and slippery. When webbing is made, they're impregnated with silicon, as time goes by, the silicone dried out and the belt looses its flexibility.

Thats a good idea Si and mine are a bit slow to wind back. I checked out there website and see they do different colours. Are you sticking with black?

http://www.seatbeltservices.co.uk/index.html

Yeah, sticking with black - I considered grey, but I'm not having the rear belts done as they still recoil very quickly!

My belts had been fine up until about 3 or 4 months ago. The auto-slack I'd disabled as that had caused it not to recoil properly. The belts then were ok for about 2 years, but the driver's one was starting to get temperamental and I hate limp belts! As mine are the belts in the door, they're actually reverse mechanisms, so there's a bit of modification that SBS need to do. The passenger side one isn't too bad, but I'd rather they were both renewed. I want them to fly back up like my new car does! :)

Well, yesterday . Took Zebedee for his mot and he passed - woo hoo!!

Great news Mandy.....

.....And we must have that conversation I promised a couple of weeks ago:oops: Hell, where does the time go....

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I fit the voltmeter at the start of last week, when running/charging it's in excess of 14v.

About Weds it was on 11.9v and the car started no bother, ran it for a bit then locked it up until when i look today and it's on 12v exactly (thought it might be on less with the alarm set, etc).

I was worried about its 'dark current' but i like the little thing and it gives me a very accurate glance charge indication .

Fyi, car is sorned hence no battery clamp currently fitted.

DSC03558.jpg

Where did you get that?

£2.77 from the far east on ebay, there's loads on there.

Just crimped ring connectors on and stuck it on the battery ledge with some silicone, so when i lift out the battery it comes with it.

Looked just now and from yesterday's 12v it's now on 11.9, expected drop after central locking several times and lots of courtesy lights switching on/off briefly.
