  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

It'll all fall into place in 2021 and I'll have a nice thing.

LOL - I will mate... It suits the SWB better?

And you're not wrong, that's going to be a lovely car when it's finished!!!

Today I drove mine down to Bristol - and left it with Jimmer, so he could sort a couple of bits....?

I'm impressed with Jimmer's new unit, plus it's so much easier to get to - only two minutes from M4 junction 18!!

Hi Richard. Did you see mine at Jimmers?

Hi Phil - long time no speak. Hope all's well..! I did indeed see the collectors Z there and I'm so glad to see you still have it!!

How many miles has it done now?

It's being reborn after many years in isolation.

Looking forward to driving it again.

Yours ok?

LOL - not even run in... ?

Mine is still going strong - I'm at 118k miles now, so almost 50k covered since I bought it from you. I need new rear brake pipes for the MOT this year, plus there's a little play in the inner HICAS joints. Add an oil change and new front brake pads, it will be all set for enjoying in 2021.

C'mon, which of the two looked the best ?.

My sea survival refresher didn't take as long as expected today, so I managed to get some paint onto the hubs tonight (note it's still wet in that pic. Will dry to a satin finish).

I'm pleased I finally got these done as they took absolutely ages to clean off the heap of crappy underseal that someone had got all over them when they did the rear end and didn't mask anything.

Today, I collected my Zed from Jimmer's - freshly serviced and MOT'd, with no advisories this time.... Because Jim had installed nice new rear brake lines and inner HICAS joints.

Thanks again Jim, you're a star mate!!

Plus it was a nice surprise to see Funky Si there too - good to see you again Si.....!

  • 2 weeks later...

Today, I had the maddest idea and decided to swap my horns this afternoon.....?

I had previously fitted some cheap plastic snail-type things from Ebay. Sure, they sounded good - and they only cost about £8 for the pair. But sadly, after a couple of years sitting just inside the front intake, the connections became corroded and they tended to fail intermittently. Thus far I have probably taken them off at least 3 times to clean and grease the terminals.

So I bought a pair of Hella OEM-type replacements from Amazon - and duly went out in the cold to fit them. It only took an hour, but my hands are scratched to buggery; albeit after 30 minutes I couldn't feel them...LOL!!

My neighbour came out and handed me a New Year beer during the process, which probably didn't help.?

Today, I went out into the cold once again - as if I didn't learn my lesson yesterday - and I replaced the brown relay behind the front off-side wing.

I don't know if J-spec cars have it, but UK cars do, as it controls the headlight washers. It was pretty damp and the terminals were green, so I cleaned and dried the connectors before plugging in the new relay. I also sealed it inside a little plastic bag with a tightly pulled cable tie, in the hope of keeping it dry in future....?

Well done - I feel your pain! Since I had the car back from the chassis shop end of November, I’ve driven it a couple times for those few jobs I mentioned on my thread; going back and forth to the garage, then a good test run after etc. They’ve obviously been putting the salt down on the roads the last few weeks, which has been making it difficult to sleep at night knowing it’s on my chassis!!

In order to ease my car ocd, today I jacked her up, wheels off, cleaned subframes/suspension and chassis including all the gaps with a bucket with car shampoo, wash mitt, big old brush and hose with those multi function attachments - didn’t jetwash as last time I did that, the underseal started to come off!! Dried it all
with towels after as didn’t want the water to sit in this cold.

Managed to get it all off and thankfully not much on there. I then washed the paintwork/wheel and dried it fully including all door/boot/bonnet shuts as usual, all ready to go under the car cover again and not come out until salt off the roads.

Started about 11 and got indoors at 4 - my backside was so cold I ended up sitting on our kitchen floor for a while, as we got underfloor heating [emoji23]. Leftover takeaway and lots of cake made me feel better afterwards!

Funny you mention that as I really need to change mine - mine are really quiet and pathetic [emoji1787]. Will buy a set of these hella ones in the future.

The oem horns must be the worst horns ever invented. Need to change mine also.

LOL - they are indeed pathetic for a mighty 3.0 twin turbo'd muscle-car.... I think Nissan gave the 300zx the same horn as the Micra of the day.?

To be honest, the Hella replacements are not as loud as the air-horns I previously had fitted, but they are much better quality. Plus they are small enough to hide in the tightest areas behind the splash-guard.

If you want loud, try to find a pair of air-horns from a modern car that will fit, I was thinking Land Rover. Julia's Evoque has really loud ones and, as they are right behind the radiator grill (and mindful of its wading abilities), they should be pretty water-resistant!

I also see that Banzai Breakers has a pair from a 350z for sale, at £15 plus P&P. Check out his Ebay shop!

Nice one Arthur - I took a couple of my Zed at the White Cliffs National Trust car park back in July.......

Today, I had to take mine out to the tyre fitters....

...Not for anything Zed-related though; I got a puncture in Julia's Rangie whilst visiting the dump this morning. Since she had to go out herself, I put the spare wheel on, loaded the flat one into my Zed and headed off. Sadly the puncture was too big, so they have ordered me a new tyre - nobody round here seems to stock Michelin Latitudes for some reason?

Still, I enjoyed a nice little drive in the Zed - and tomorrow I'll give it a clean, rinse the under-side and pop it back in the garage once more?

These have served me well for many years.

They look good Andrew - I had a cheaper, Chinese made, inferior copy of those which didn't last too well. The terminals were steel, rather than copper, so corroded badly; thus necessitating replacement!

Cheers for this [emoji1417]. Will probs go for the quality hella ones at some point, when it gets a bit warmer. Yeah when I was typing the message before, I was thinking they’re probably one for a micra haha. I used it once when someone peed me off, and was so embarrassed I never used it again [emoji23][emoji23]. Don’t need anything special, just something not pathetic like the oem one hah!

Today I discovered that one of the targas doesn't seal properly and found a nice layer of ice on all the interior glass.

Sorted that out, stuck in some dehumidifier boxes and a reusable dehumidifying pillow. Then placed the new cover over the top. Away to work tomorrow so this will keep any extra moisture out until I get back from sea in 3 weeks and can investigate more.

Today, I gave my Zed a good wash followed by a wipe down with Auto Finesse Glisten - and then got it back inside the garage just before the rain set in!!

Hence the lack of pictures save for these two?
