I had my heater core split a while ago, which was replaced and everything was good.

However for the past few months there has been a strange sucking noise coming from under the dash when the heater is on. The only thing I can liken it to is when your drinking from a glass with a straw, and when there isn't much liquid left it makes a similar noise.

It basically sounds like water (or another liquid) being sucked through something. It only happens when the heater is on, (which at the moment in this weather is all the time). I've also noticed that it only happens when I have been driving for a bit then come to a stop, or when I pull away from standing.

I'm not sure if the heater should even be on all the time, should it be turned off after the car has warmed up? The only reason I have it on all the time is (if I turn it off) the windshield gets covered with a greasy residue and it's difficult to see where I'm going.

I'm probably going to sell the car later this year, so I want to try and get everything sorted.:detective:

It does sound like the air con pipe has come loose under the dash...this would point to the noise and the grease could be the R12 lubricant. Pull the plug from your air con pump and see iff you still have it.

Ok thanks I will have a look at the weekend. I just remembered I had the air con re-charged at end of last summer, do you need to disconnect the air con pipe when the system has new gas put in it?

Yes and if all is working as it should, after and if your lucky 15 mins have passed with this sucking noise you should then get just one large gulp - the sucking will now cease......HTH :thumbup1:.

Because the noise they make when full of water sounds like when kids suck the empty drink that gurgle noise and it comes from the footwells thought he might be hearing that.

I think the sucking noise is your arsehole popping of the seat when you boot it... Might be wrong though :)
