Evening all, ok currently i have a garage at the side of the house but it isn't the biggest and i am looking to rip down the current garage and build a new one further back on my property. As my back garden is raised i plan to excavate some of it and build a garage then top the garage with decking so as not to lose any space ( if that makes sense? ).

 

Now my question is how big is everyones garage and is there ample space for manovering around your zed?? Want to have room for tools and workspace etc.

My double garage is 18 foot long or deep and 14ft wide, if you want to work on the car inside you need at least this, go as deep as you can but I guess keep a standard width for an off the shelf door :cool3:.

Build as big as you can as you can never have a big enough garage. A tight squeeze is no good.

 

 

 

 

 

Well its sound advice to build as big as you can. I've been building my garage for the last 18 months, all me no labourers! 24x20 give or take a few inches. Would loved to have gone wider but am boundry to boundry. I can tell you that even 20 foot wide you will not be able to open the doors fully with two cars in there. So I am treating it as two cars storage or one car with workshop facilities.

 

If you go over 30 square meters you'll need planning, and building regs inspections BUT the building regs guys don't really care - it's a garage at the end of the day lol.

 

Here is a shot from inside the pit :) Got to get some more pictures as the concrete floor is in now, windows & doors and just about to fit a roller shutter on this coming weekend.

Dublove I like the plans and style of the garage mate. I have an ok garage which enables me to walk round the Zed but hopefully when I move later this year I can pursuade the missus in finding a place with a big enough garage.
