my targa leak is causing the carpet to get damp, and because of the weather snow etc etc ive not driven the car so its not warming up and dying out, tso its causing me real issues. ive done the usual and pulled up the front edge and pumped it full of selant, it didn't really stop it. its coming out the front piece of the targa. just a small drip but constant. the targa itself is saturated.

I've got a bucket on my passenger seat to collect the water even though I've sealed the roof. Mines leaking around where the Targa locks at the front. Think the targa drains could be blocked, might be worth checking them on yours.

I also have a small leak from that point having fixed most of the problem by sealing down the rubber on the corner of the targa/roof

 

I think probably the edge of the rubber is worn and lets rainwater drip down inside the window

 

Can I suggest you wait until it is dry (or wipe down the rubbers if it ain't) then coat it with chalk or talcum powder

 

Close the door then when it next rains you should see the tracks of the leak clearly in the chalk dust - post them up and lets see if it is the same as mine, and maybe get some resolution to the problem for once and for all

 

If you don't see any tracks in the dust it's probably getting in underneath the rubber - so needs more sealant

I resealed my drivers targa but still leaks i have found that the seal is saturated with water and i think its coming in through the seal not the joints

same, ive resealed as per Jeffs thread, i think next up is brand spanking new rubbers when the weather finally lets up and goes back to some sort of normality, at present i just use a bin bag arranged on my drivers and passenger seats to collect the water so as not to drench the carpet, mine too is leaking at the front targa securing point, the rubber is saturated, and its coming down near both sides of the hard plastic that the targa locking pin goes through.

 

Talc trick will not work if his leak is the same as mine as per his description as the whole area is soaking wet. we need some serious hot weather to dry it all out.

I've got some spare rubbers so gona wait till we get some nice weather and fit them. Wana spray my roof black at the same time.

I sealed the outside of the roof, where it was leaking, but its still coming in. It's such a pain cus I've got my new seats fitted now aswel.

Is there a certain type of sealant i need to stick the rubbers down when I change them?

Yeh it's too expensive, I got a spare set from a breaker for £30 guaranteed not to leak, hopefully.

It does has restorative properties aswell, but obviously depends how bad your rubber seals are, but it has certainly proved to be a worthy produce in my car care box of tricks

Steve I have the same issue on mine I have moved the doer latch in a tad on the passenger side and so far it has worked I'm going to try it on my drivers door to see if it works aswell :)

Point is they are the same rubbers so if they worked before then you should think they would work afterwards......

 

Took me a few weeks of sealing and testing and resealing but finally I got there (pretty much so - I always had a very slight leak on the driver window before and do so now - but I can live with it, it's just a few drips and does not get on the seat)

 

All I did is every time it leaked after I thought I fixed it, is get the targa off in a bit of dry weather and try to see where it comes from - then get the silicone sealant out. In my case every single leak was getting under the rubber rather than over it - apart from possibly the very small drips I get now - those I think are because the rubber is worn where it seals against the driver side glass.

 

I would certainly suggest you take off the plastic cover at the top end of the A frame ( It's held on by one screw just where the targa clips on - take the targa panel off and you will see it easy enough - I did post pics on the 'targe laking like a sieve' thead' so refer to that if it is not clear what I mean. If there is any water inside that plastic cover thing then from my experience it is getting in underneath the rubbers. If it ain't raining pour a kettle full of water over the roof, then have a look where it is getting in

 

So what I am suggesting is persevere and you may well fix it - I thought mine was a hopeless case but it was not.... in the end. It just took more effort that I would have thought to fix it,

Yeah that's the bit bud just undo the 2 Phillips screws another to push the loops inwards and it will pull the door inwards when you shut it :)

Well I had 5 minutes today, so I had a look at the latches. Well Phil I noticed something, the plastic surround on the catch has worn away so the door doesn't pull in quite as far as it should. It's only a mm, and I also pulled the catch in towards the cabin 2mm making an increased pull of 3mm big gain. I can now see the glass squeezing the seal much better. so now ive just gotta wait for the rain and see what happens, im sure that wont take long lol.

Did u get this fixed mate? I think I've managed to fix mine at the weekend as we've had a lot of rain and sleet and it hasn't leaked.

I took the targa off and pulled back the rubber all the way along. Took out the 4 screws that hold the metal strip in place and moved it along slightly towards the front of the car. Two of the screw holes are elongated which allows you to move the rubber backwards and forwards slightly. When I put the targa back on I noticed the rubber on the targa sat tighter against the rubber on the roof and up to now there's been no leaks. Hope this helps.

no not yet, ive brought a half car cover in the mean time, I know it bad for the paint but a wet rotting floorpan is far worse for the cars health. Il try the above cheers :)

I've made the car cover mistake in the past, think it damages the paint when the sun comes out and heats up the moisture under the cover. Should be ok in winter.

No you were right, it is four.

There are lots of places on the targa for water ingress. Rust under the end seals is causing issues due to the foam degrading. Nissan relied on foam to seal all the joints within the top. As per usual the replacement foam is silly money. I`ve used non setting buytl sikalastomer 710 instead on mine(very messy but may need to strip again so avoided silicone) and this would appear to be working. You have to seal All the joints, screw holes incl. the weather strip and replace the foam that seals the panel to the glass and reseal the rubber door strip holder (metal strip) that seals to the panel
