Hi all, I did a mad thing over christmas and bought a GT-R, if anyone's thinking about it - do it!

My last Z was quick but this thing is insane, loads of fun to drive, handles like a go cart, gear changes are mental bang bang bang up or down the box no lag at all, and it sticks to the surface like it's been glued. Lots of strange noises and whistles, and some grindy crunches at slow speed. 0-60 is 2.8 sec, bucket loads of torque, very quick even if you don't take it over 3k rpm.

Downsides are rip off prices for brakes and especially tyres, the Dunlop runflats are only available through a NissanHPC and the nearsest one in Bristol wants £2200 for a set (285 and 255 20's). Michelin PSS are 1k cheaper but could cause warranty issues.

Averaging around 17 mpg so far, same as the Z so not too bad. Had a dusting with an Aston Martin the other day, he was infront and let out a huge roar and took off, normally it's impossible to pass a really quick car because you run out of road so I usually stick behind and ease off a little, but the gtr just left it for dust, did the same to an Evo too, it really is stupid quick :)

In R mode you can launch at 4k rpm but it's been damp every day so not tried it yet. It's not the prettiest of cars but it sure is loads of fun :) Cheers

Looks amazing, i fancy owning one, one day lol, cant believe the price of the tyres, but i guess at the sort of speeds it can reach, they have to be top notch.

Yeah the oem Dunlops are made for the car, lots of owners are using MPSS at a grand cheaper.

Pics don't show how BIG the car is, makes my old sl55 look small, had it on a four poster lift and the wheels were hanging over the side of the ramp by an inch each side lol.

Awesome, saw three on thursday randomly. your right though iys a big unit I parked next to one at the main dealers a while back, the z32 isnt a small car but iyt felt pint size next to that thing.

Awsome - I had a look around PhilP's one at JAE last year and know what you mean about the size!!

Love your choice of colour too mate - enjoy!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Bloody lovely mate

one of my customers has just bought one - hes a Merc man through & through with various cars including a CLK Black Edition & fully Carllson tuned SL55 AMG - said it took him some time to get his head around the Nissan badge (LOL!) but he loves it.

Had a track day at Silverstone in one last year - that was an awesome experience & blew away all of the other cars on the circuit!

Love it mate - enjoy!

Massive jealousy from me!! :censored:

Nah seriously, its an awesome machine. I drove one last year and did a bit of wee! You cant help but grin every second you are in it! :thumbup1::thumbup1:

Awesome cars , would love one, I had a hard decision to buy one or build an extension but guess which one she wanted :( drove one last year and fell in love, enjoy

Thanks for comments guys, I just remembered how friendly this place is compared to some other forums :)

Haven't decided yet whether to do stage 1 mods, earlier cars had around 480 bhp but this one's 550 standard which feels quick enough at the mo, but Litchfields charge just over 1k for stage 1 ( Y pipe/boost/remap) so something to think about when the better weather arrives :)

Like you say, not the prettiest of cars but that colour combo is one of the best imo, very nice.

What sort of power was your Z kicking out?

  • Author

It was a SWB (ADZ 194 dunno if it's still around?) running 1 bar boost, decat, filter, suspension, higher gearbox pressure, lots of mods, was pretty quick at around 13 sec 1/4 mile, think it was around 380 bhp. Gtr is about 11 sec 1/4, but the joy of the thing is round the twisties, the gearbox is undescribably good, and the way the car tries to correct itself without cutting the power makes you laugh :)

Enjoy it mate. I've had mine for nearly 3yrs now. Still love it just as much, although don't drive it as much as i'd like - it makes it all the more special. I've toyed with the idea of a Litchfield upgrade myself, but i'm happy with the stock performance for now.

What a machine and that colour is fantastic....the best car Nissan have ever rolled off the floor i think. Iff i was certain the interest rates would stay low for another 3 years ide buy one tomorrow
