Can I change my inside door handles without removing the door cards? I have chrome ones to fit so decided to do it today seen as work is like a white desert. Don't really fancy taking door cards off if I can avoid it!

I think unless your gynecologist think your gonna struggle dean as they are fixed to the actual door and the connecting wires run behind the handle, so much easier just to whip the door card off

I have some chrome ones to fit, I expect the card as to come off and then it's pretty straight forward but if there is any advice to give please post away :cool3:.

Lol I just like to have my hand in it lol, only advise I can give after taking mine off dozens of time is take your time, there are 2 screws at the front of the door card, then 2 screws hold the plastic clip that goes around the seat belt, 2 screws in the bottom of the door pull handle, and handle surround off, then lower the window to reveal plastic circle, 1 screw holding door pillar on, just a clip at the bottom, then 2 more screws at top of door card under pillar bit once removed, then just clips round the bottom, same on pass side but screws on handle behind rubber gromits, obviously remove elec window switches too. Hope that's of some help.

Hahahaha........I didn't mean the door card as I've had that off many times but I am now feeling guilty you wrote all that .

Same here but seeing as there are not many vin numbers between mine and yours that then is a given :cool3:.

Reminds me of the guy who was a gynaecologist and wanted to become a mechanic;

at college he was taught how to dismantle and rebuild an engine and when his exam

was to be sat his examiners were amazed by how his precision was but mostly by the

fact that he done the whole job through the exhaust.

Or the gynaecologist that became a decorator, he could paper your hall through the letterbox...

LOL at Jaikai and Steams........

....And to answer the original question; yes, the door card has to come off to change the door handles. But having taken them off myself to fit new speakers, it doesn't take very long and I'm not the most technical person!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I mentioned in post 3 that I had some chrome handles to fit and today whilst my door card is off being re trimmed I did the job and what a simple job it is.

Unscrew the one bolt, slide it all to the side and pull away from the frame, bottom lever just pull up and out, top lever uses the plastic to lock, one of the easiest of Z jobs .

And removing door cards is even easier...5 min job or 1 lambert&butler and half a cup of coffee no sugar

All these use the same interior handles, so get yourself searching ebay as they do pop up from time to time, hardly ever advertised as 300ZX handles though as far as I am aware they were never fitted..

Personally I paid £18.00 for the pair delivered and that was a best offer, bet no one can beat that !!

Yes removing them is easy but putting them back on is another story completely! Lining up with the holes etc what a night mare. Just done one side now, 5mins to remove, 2mins to change handle....25 mins to get the ****ing door card back on. Whoever designs these things on cars needs a right good kicking

LOL...best way to line up the holes is to lie on your back and look up and you have the 3 at the bottom and the best way is to fix the 2 small screws at the hinge side 1st and the card should then be almost lined up and easier. Of course flatten or bend the plastic pop studs and your goosed.

I'm sure I did mine with the door card still one - I'm trying to think back now. The door cards only take 5 minutes to get off though

Take you that extra 5, 10 mins struggling with the card on so may as well wop it off and anyway you cannot backlight the handle assy without removing the card :thumbup1:.
