Hi I'm a new member, I'm 20 years old and looking for my next car. I want a 300zx short wheel base manual turbo or N/A. Got up to £2500 to spend for the right car. Looking for one with good service history, and MOT :) Not too concerned about mileage, but anything high miles must have full history! Mods or no mods, not bothered. Will travel to look at the right car

I'm based in Manchester, PM me or email me at mrtwlsb@aol.com :) Look forward to being a fellow 300zx owner.

Hey,

I’ve boomeranged my way though cars ending back up at the Zeds again and again..

When I was 20 I had a 240Z (all 2 seaters) and many a times had extra people in it… not a good look.

Had a few times after being out with a mate and picked up a couple of girls, made it interesting.

After a few other cars and then another 240Z finally went for a 260Z 2+2… really had a difference to being able to take more than one other person places.

The comments are correct in that the 2+2 is hardly a four seater, more like an occasional / emergency extra two seats (the “estate” version (lol) is only about 9.5 inches longer than the 2 seater).

However there are occasions where you might be very glad of them… :)

good luck with your search whatever flavour you go for...

Not run for the hills just yet! I'm currently on a corsa forum (we all start somewhere!) - if I can put up with what people are like on there then being here is like being treated as royalty haha! Thanks for the welcomes guys. To be honest, I've no problem with the LWB, I just want a SWB so I can say I've got a two seater :winkiss: It's a bit rarer too I like rare things :D and it's shorter, so less car to worry about when parking :P

I think the 300zx in general is rare enough for it not to be that important if its LWB or SWB. Infact only people who have a 300zx will notice/care or even know that a SWB model exists. When I had the slicktop there were people who came over enthusing about it, got confused at the solid roof and I had to show them it had no backseats etc. FYI, I had a TT auto at 20. It was a massive hoot, loved it but it was quite expensive to live with and I was earning a reasonable wage, especally as I was doing 60 hours a week. My heavy foot coupled with the type of journeys I was doing it was managing 13mpg, and I was burning a tank of juice a weekend for fun after driving 1000 miles a week in a company van.

General rule is buy the best you can for the money you have! There is always more time to buy the SWB tt model in time, but a LWB is more enjoyable in that your friends (legless of course) can come as well! Just check with the insurance though that you are declaring it as an import, if it is an import, as it will affect the insurance and probably not in a good way!

Lots of good advice coming out here... Hope you find somet, and no matter what the finer details are, you'll love it either way!

Tis funny, watching your mates getting hopelessly stuck trying to get in n out of the back!!

Some good advice in here :D

Insurance doesn't seem to be much different, maybe by pounds if it's an import, that's not a bother for me!

I'm used as a taxi sometimes though, like last night my friend wanted picking up but my brother was with me etc!

I know the 2+2 is the wisest choice for me.. but I dunno :( I might end up with a LWB instead! But still has to be manual and prefferably NA :P

There is a bit more to go wrong with a TT, but tbh you might as well buy a 330i if your going to buy an NA... The difference in performance is astonishing, fuel consumption is basically the same and although the TT has turbos to go wrong, IMHO i would say an NA would have had a harder life as they have to be revved harder to get anywhere.

I'm not used to driving anything fast so I'm confident a NA will be shock enough to my system! If a mint TT popped up for a good price I'd probably snatch it up though! Thanks for the advice! :)

Fair point! Very sensible, I had an E36 323i at 18/19 so had got used to 170bhp/180lbft and rwd by the time I had the first TT which was 300bhp+ and 280lbft

If your set on an NA there is a nice black one for sale in blackpool, having seen it in the flesh its a nice car.

I can't imagine my first car being that powerful, the car I own right now (first car I've ever owned) is about 70bhp! I very much look forward to experiencing what a zx's are like to drive.

My dad did own a 350z earlier this year with a few nice mods on it, and I was wowed by the performance of that :D it just didn't feel happy at all going 30mph everywhere though. I hope the 300zx's don't feel like that I can't risk my insurance going up any!

When my car was auto it was plesantly lazy when I wanted, now its manual it begs to be antisocial constantly.

LOL - this thread has really turned into a classic. Love it - and the banter - and I say without sarcasm or caveat, it's the best way to initiate a new member into the club!!

Welcome once again Kurtt - and like my learned friend below says.....

Pick which one you want mate, all are welcome here :)

......any incarnation of the 300zx is fine with us; be it a TT, NA, SWB, LWB, auto or manual..... Sure we have our preferences and enjoy a bit of rivalry between our fellow members; but whatever version you chose, the most important piece of advice we will all offer, is...... Buy the best example of the car you can and enjoy it.

Richard:sorcerer:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ah I had a civic before that, 1.5 vtec-e beast all of 90 bhp and intergalactic gearing so it was slowww!

you can still buy mine... :D

I don't have much of a clue about automatics, but my dad's mk1 cortina with a rover v8 in it is an automatic! Apparently very good for drag racing?

I know haha! Never felt so welcomed anywhere before! I noticed this thread has had over 500 views in just a day :scared: Learnt quite a lot just by what I'm being told in this thread it's great!

I'm a bit afraid of replies to this but before I got interested in the zx's I really wanted a civic type r! The EP3 model, been in a friends and they're really good! Honda did great getting all that out of a 2L N/A is all I can say!

It's a very good looking car! And price! I may be viewing another car later this week (It's a SWB N/A) but I'll see what happens!

Funnily enough a good friend of mine (actually his lad did the respray on my car) is also in the market for a manual SWB TT Targa to own as a road car/show car - so he can keep his eye on me at shows so he says - and is willing to pay more than that to find the right car (though not silly money, apparently he says) and I haven't managed to find one for him either

so who's hoarding them lol

dicky

so who's hoarding them lol

I know you say that in jest but it's not a case of hoarding them, replacing mine would be near impossible here in the UK and is the reason and very last resort they get put up for sale as the value will not depreciate on them but it also wouldn't on tidy LWB's.

If a SWB does come up for sale if it will be a N/A and/or have an auto box so finding a TT Manual is difficult, this is the reason they certainly start at 4K and then the condition, mileage, colour, etc, as all got to be taken into account for you to take that plunge :cool3:.

Good luck with your search.

Well I'm on a Type R forum and the amount of people on there with the looked after, low mileage and undamaged examples (believe me there's not many) that have 2 or three of them, and why? Because they can I suppose, old cars in demand only get rarer! And people trying to make a profit on them don't help matters lol
