Well alana is now back at work after having nyomi, one week in the woman who was doing our childcare for a reasonable price says she cant do it as it's to much. If we send her to a normal childcare it will be £850 a month alana only makes £1050 a month so not worth while and because I have a good job we get no help from the government. Perhaps we should both stop working and go on benefits they seem to be the only ones that get help. Just needed to have a wee moan on here lol

It really sucks mate. When I was a single mum I worked full time with Natasha in private childcare at the hospital where I worked. After my childcare bill came out of my salary I once had £11 left. It's soul destroying :(

Hope you can get it sorted soon

Trying to get it sorted so that she is just with her current childminder 5 half days but it's had to tie family down to looking after her every week

Del, its a nightmare mate. I have been in the same situation years ago when my youngest was a toddler. I have never claimed a penny in my life but really wanted too as my next door neighbour was a right lazy ****, never worked in his life, was claiming everything under the sun and had a brand new mobility car too! I really wondered why I bothered as it wasnt worth me and my wife both working as we had to pay out loads on childminders/pre school nursery etc. This country doesnt help the working families at all mate unfortunately :(

as far as i know, child care isn't something the jobless can claim for, i know they where thinking about giving free child care to those wishing to return to work, but it never took off due to the costs involved.

though child care in this country has bloody ridiculous fee's, think it was around £187 per child per week on average last time i checked

I feel for you mate coz were in the same position luckily my mrs mum has him on a Monday as that's her day off my mum has him on a Tuesday as that's her day off so that helps quite alot, there's no help for genuine people its a joke,

We keep saying we would be better off not working but we both like working I couldn't be one of the dossers that sit at home all day with no self worth, least when you work you can say you've paid for everything you've bought,

low earners get 70% of the chldcare costs payed for, im on 22k a year and in the eyes of the government that is a fantastic wage and i should be living like a king for that, it boils my piss to see friends on my facebook get everything under the sun but dont seem to work for it, all i see is status updates about how they are cosy watching cartoons cuddled up on the settee, never how they are sick of getting up on cold mornings to go to work

ive looked into claiming and because im not claiming anything, the authoroties wont help me find out if im entitled to anything as im working? how the fook does that work then?

shell is due to go back to work this month and we are lucky we have sitters, but she is going to be going back part time and we are really gonna feel the pinch, just gotta get on with it i suppose, think i may phone the nashy about some of the lazy dole wallers on my facey though, that would wake them up a bit lol

matey, would love to know where you heard that from, i know a few people who want to return to work but cant due to child care costs. the most i can find out about it is this.

https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-early-education

thats all well and good if your children are of that age, but before that you are basically screwed.

the only help it is on about there, is for further education if im reading that right lol

We know people that get help with child are costs up our way not sure on how much ect. We are by no means poor I have a good job but I'm about £8000 short this year from what I earned last year and with Alana being on maternity she is around £4000 so it's a lot to try and find without the extra expense of childcare yet I know plenty of people with nothing better to do than sit and watch Jeremy Kyle on the 50" plasma

My wife runs her own private child minders business and I have to defend her here! At £187 per week (@ 40 hours) she would only be earning £4.67 per hour, from that she would feed and water the kid she also does this from home so we have to heat and light the house all day as well as providing all the relevant insurance not to mention the out off hours training and inspections.

If the child is also at nursery she will also have to take them there during the day (in the 7 seater we had to buy) and collect them later, she is also restricted to the amount of children she can look after at any one time. How much would you want to earn for looking after someone else screaming bad mannered kid, if say you had 3 to look after that would be £14.01 per hour less expences and I can assure you I wouldn't be doing it for that!!!

Oh don't get me wrong andy I think the childminders fully deserve the money that they get for looking after kids that wasn't really what I was moaning about. It's more that the 2 of us are wanting to work however it just isn't worth it if we are having to pat 90% of alanas wages back out on child care. Then you have people who never work and have no intention to work getting all the benefits under the sun

Reading all the above its no wonder young familys get the parents to look after the kids during the day while they work...Glad my breeding days are over as at those prices ide have the young buggers in the back of my van with a bag of halibo and 3 wooly jumpers on...

Our parents both live 50 miles away so that's out the question for us :(

Last time i checked we couldn't claim anything because we got 17k between us a year... And I'm sure you agree that's feck all :(

The systems against honest working people Barry, thats the downfall of this country:( plus the stupid costs involved owning a child care buisness forces the owners to have to charge so much. I recently looked into buying a lease on a high street shop and the council rates plus water rates was twice as much each month as the fkin rent so that went out the window.

I fully appreciate where you are coming from mate - and I'm so glad we decided not to have children!!!

It's completely wrong when the system encourages people not to work as they would be better off on benefits; and I can see how it's soul destroying for honest people like you who would prefer to work than accept help from the state. More needs to be done to encourage people back to work instead of becoming dependent upon hand-outs....

Maybe if you thought of it differently as in you need childcare for both of you to continue working as normally not just for Alana to return to work, I know in the long run it still means you have to pay £850 to gain £1150!

I think the general rule these days is if you can't afford them, don't have them! Or have lots of them so you get lots of handouts!

I took the decision ages ago not to have more than one because of the cost & the fact that I'd have to get big state hand outs. Wish more people did the same!

Solution's simple- bring back child labour!! They can be sweeping chimneys while you are at work earning their keep. Expensive little monsters

Hahahaha - those were the days.....

...... Thing is, when I see some kids nowadays I actually believe some of them should be sent up chimneys. It'd sure teach them a thing or two about real life; LOL!!!
