Seeing as a Series 4 Turbo does not have a boost gauge in the clocks and things have developed for me now to fit one as I have acquired 3 clocks in total over the years so I have lots of spares.

I have had to fit the stock oil pressure gauge as the EL dial I had in this location was damaged and no longer lit up and also the needle as never been possible for it to sit correctly on zero .

This now looked odd mainly colour wise and out of balance so I carefully cut away the speedo EL sheet and fit a stock boost gauge to show through this now created space.

It looks grand now, both may be stock black against the other EL ones but I am happy but the boost gauge does not work and I need to know why not please?

It is bolted in to the clock carcass/circuit board with it's 4 screw bolts so therefore is connected with the car loom - is it possible to make it work?

I have an aftermarket boost gauge and a profec II so I don't really need it and I go well over 14psi but I would like it to move about !!

Thanks Lee, don’t think I’ll try stripping it down again to investigate then. Beats me how when they were deleting things left right and centre to save on production costs they found the money to keep tinkering with the cluster wiring!

Finding clusters with a boost gauge is incredibly difficult, got mine many years ago from Japan and think it was about £70 all in !!

I'm always on the look out for 'spares' to what I have, I did see one a while ago from Banzai, the price was £260, also one from America which was even more.

As long as the pcb is like the one in this thread with one vertical and 2 horizontal plugs then I've found they all work with TT's, I have seen the blue pcb boarded clusters with 3 plugs all horizontal, these could be for 1992 verts, but this please note is a guess.

What about the 2000spec cluster? Which came from the factory with a boost guage for the later style cluster. I retro fitted one into my 89 jdm model and its great.

I had to tear down a 94+ cluster and swap in all the new 2kspec gauges and stuff and then rewire my 89 cluster connectors to make it all work and power on to suit the later style cluster.

Absolutely nothing, where are we supposed to find such an item though, there’s more chance finding a unicorn ?.

The wiring conversion for me was the hardest part.

Its not exactly a cheap option going this method either but it would be easier then finding a whole used cluster maybe. And thats assuming the gauges are all still avaliable from nissan. I did this back in 2011-2012.

These are heavily messed about with but £250 gets them back to the UK.

There's a series 4 onwards boost gauge on this cluster but is there the factory black face under the aftermarket faces, no guarantee of course and even if it's not been ripped off or out, it could be damaged with the attachment of the white one.

Not sure I could live with that colour scheme if the dials had to stay as-is. I assume all the extra wiring is for km/h to mph conversion or some such?

If I were to attempt this, how easily do the needles come off/reattach?

The extra wiring is for the EL dials, one wire for each, hence 6.

Needles lever off very easily with a fork, not a garden fork, a cutlery fork, for your chips !!

The aftermarket faces may or may not come off easily, not much glue is required to hold them place but you won't know until it's on your bench.

OK so I have a Series 1 cluster which I bought years ago thinking I could plug & play to get a boost gauge. I’ve just used that to practice removing needles and dials on the bench and all seems OK. Didn’t fancy my first go being on my working cluster.
That S1 cluster has the same 190km/h max speedo dial as mine, but with a cutout for the boost gauge. Do you happen to know whether the dial from the S1 cluster would just slot into the S4? Sounds optimistic I know, given the mountings for the boost gauge dial face are completely different!

Presumably it could be glued in even if the locating pins/holes are in the wrong place as long as it’s lined up straight?

Photo shows the dial from the disassembled S1 cluster, the S4 is still intact and in the car!
