Hi guys,

Just changed the oil, although it looked more like mayo !

I've noticed a loud whine whine seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine, it quietened down a bit once the new oil had circulated the engine but i don't want to run it too much incase its something serious. I've uploaded this video however it stands out more on my phone than than it does on my Mac, hopefully you can hear it?

Cheers guys.

Sounds like a dry bearing, is the alternator ok?

Spoke to my old man and he reckoned alternator, so I've blasted it with WD40 and I think it's a bit quieter. I'll keep doing it during the week and see what happens.

The idle has sorted itself out and now settles at about 8-900 rpm. Will need to change the oil again after a few miles as there's still some yellow sh1te in the system.

It seems to be mate, not had to re-jump it since the first time I got it running.

WD will have to do for now as I don't have the cash for an alternator at the mo, I have a feeling it will be ok haha.

Il have a look in the shed think ive got one with a fecked core you can raid the shaft and bearings off. Il look tomorrow.

check your power steering pot...sounds like the PAS. Might have water in the system from the rack seals

I thought bout that but wouldnt the system have to have a leak for v8 that to work? Else psf would be able to escape?

not always mate... pressure oil seals are designed to be tight from the pressure side. Ive left big jacks outside for a couple of months with no loss of fluid but rain water has got into the ram seals and filled the thing with water.

Id say thats a knackered alternator bearing, had the same on mine.

Speak to Andy at Supercarparts for a second hand one

right ive a had a look rob but i must of thrown it out, i guess with it being broken there was no nee dto keep it. anyways im fairly sure yoyu can seperate the body and repalce the bearings, but tbh you can pick them up dirt cheap.
