the grant run out next month and may be some time before they start up again, ive just had british gas round to check mine but i have enough in the walls and loft so they wont do anymore, but if you havent had it done google british gas insulation and give them a ring, makes a huge difference to your home in the winter, house stays warmer a lot longer when the heating goes off and it makes a difference in your energy bills

just thought i would give you a heads up

its not just british gas thats doing it, there are others, but im with british gas so rang them

Cheers Allan...will look into it

Yeh , I have British gas coming on the 5th to survey for my free cavity insulation ;) I love freebies :D

Had cavity wall insulation done under government part funded scheme, only cost £75, then a few months later got a refund (without asking) as scheme became 100% free!

Heating comes on much later and for shorter periods....mind you unless there's ice inside the windows the family can stay in their ski suits, before i treat Mr EON to another profit haul, Lol!

Loft insulation also available ...to much rubbish in my loft to bother.

Had mine done last week (loft), What a difference! Cant have the walls done apparently there is no cavity

My house is less the 10 years old so it had been done before I brought it. I reckon I have at least another month before I consider putting on the heatingand then will only be for a few hours in the AM and then in the same in PM.

I would not have this done as when they insulate they use blown fibre rather than the better blown beads they should use a heat camera after insulation to detect hot and cold spots that have failed to be filled

But they are on a fixed price to do the job and this after care is very rarely done. This can cause damp issues that will take years to be detected.

Guys ask if they use beads or fibre something thats for nothing is very rarely good

its free because its the government that pays for it and the guy from british gas told me its the better stuff they use

Actually, we did a LOT more than that. I think we spent nearly £2k in materials, but we did use that stuff in one room.

some older houses have no cavity, they are solid

Yep thats me 1923, I have a massive gap under the floor boards (3 foot) can this be filled in or am I asking for damp issues.

Lol, that's not a gap, that's a cellar ! Seriously though, ypu probably don't want to fill it in, but you may consider floor insulation, the sort that goes under the carpet, would probably make quite a difference.

Where would you put the wifes body?

Makes sense Allan - I wondered how BG could offer it for free and whether their customers would have to pay in the end....

.....I have the cavity wall insulation, but my loft could probably be re-done as the current insulation is thinner than the present recommendations. I'll give BG a call!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
