Before we even pulled the engine yesterday due to the oil / water mix in the radiator, the smoke from the exhaust and the general fit of engine we knew there was troubl e ahead, but add to the mix that this was once rebuilt by Ztech ( now a defunct outfit ) and was one of their famed "Forged variety" the reveal was well no surprise,

Standard pistons, rings rods, bearings, and nice standard head gaskets, trouble is the car had been set up on the understanding it was strong biggger injectors, bigger turbo`s and boosted etc. but the build was poor, the amount of excess silicon sealant was a joke, the mixed up bolts and missing brackets etc. was plain lazy, but to charge for one thing and delivery a hold lot less is unforgivable, this is one of many engines from the same bunch that were rebuilt with standard parts but charged out as Forged.

Why do this? if your getting work and been paid accordingly then why cheat? they were never in it for the long game, just a quick buck and off in to the sunset.....

So under pressure the standard parts had let go with broken piston rings and worse heavily marked bores, one bore has a sort of roll in the metal!

Be warned about any engines from this bunch.

No surprise from that lot Jeff seen an engine like that before with claims of being forged and the likes however just shoddy workmanship. Incidentally though I think that thread was deleted or cleaned up as blame wasn't allowed to be directed towards ztech

Yes considering the amount of damming evidence that has come to light since their demise its a wonder they lasted as long as they did, the annoying thing is like many of the other robbers who called themselves specialists, they are well gone now with customers cash and no chance they will ever have to defend any of their work or give any re-compense.....

Thats terrible.I bet that sounded awfull running:thumbdown:

geezz thats bad ... i dont know the in's outs of this ztech place but i assume this is not the first time this has happened

I think while they were going they did a hell of a lot of engines, many we have seen and many we have heard about, its worrying though how many are still out there waiting to fail.

Jeff

what a terrible sight, too many of these cars have ended up in the care of complete conmen and many past owners have since sold up totally disapointed with the whole game because of the likes of above....be intrested to see the bottom end Jeff too.

don't know if he is or not but it won't be for me.... i don't really have the budget or time for that and i hate the idea of having it back in the car.... i really don't even want to start on what i think of Ztech.

Oh and strangely enough it didn't sound too bad!?!?!

what amazes me is that it kept on going up and down the motorway like that!!

Judging by the lines that far up the bore those rings were broken on assembly, they could never score that there other wise, ive seen cleaner pistons in high mileage diesels, thats a mess. Its awful to find piss poor workmanship like that.I did another re rebuild on another one of said specialists engines last year, that was scrap too, crank and block got binned. No forged rods, broken rings on second hand pistons.Thank god they are gone.At leat you no now and can get it done right.

Mine is one of them :) it's not forged but rebuild by ztech. 5 years ago. Previous owner payed 4.5k for rebuild. I still have a bill

So that's your car mate? Jeez fella, I'm sorry that happened to you....:scared:

I reckon your best bet, if you cannot stretch to a Jimmer rebuild, is ti have Jeff pop a known good replacement engine in it for you. Good luck in whatever you decide,

sorry to hear about this budd

I know how you feel, I got 'had' by this company! There has been loads of threads on here about them and their 'shoddy work'. Such a shame that it leaves you disheartened and when times are hard it makes it so much worse. Hope you sort something out.

thanks Richard (and guys)....

yeah, pushing the budget and bought Jaffa's forged block, Jeff is getting what he can from my old engine and aside from a few bits I'm getting, supplying the rest... :)

once that's done, mechanically it should be good.... just have to wait till i get enough cash together to fix the body.

  • 2 months later...

I was another who was ripped of by this lot as was my friend karlos g ,

we were both ripped of at same time , I sadly sold my zed after 6k spent inc new engine fitted by a proper zed mechanic not a chef .

there might be my old thread somewhere ,i spent 3.900 pounds to have uprated turbos bottom end rebuilt inc bearings etc ,and few other bits which were never done ,

car never even made it home 80 miles away it locked up almost wiping me out on the m25 i was facing the wrong way going backwards with a hgv hurtling towards me ,

end cap wasnt torqued properly came loose as thread was stripped conrod threw side of block , , even after the car went back to him it wasnt untill i got it trailered that i noticed a lot of my mods and gearbox parts ecu etc were missing , no doubt stolen to fix other cars , , this expereince killed any future happiness for me in zeds ,

Thankfully when it came to sell my now running zed my"upgraded" turbos were smoking , oh and they were stock ones by the way resprayed ,

Then A very good zed place called z world , hope there still running , had very kindly offered to recon my turbos for free when i sold the car to a the new owner ,"now had new engine fitted and new gearbox "and all missing parts replaced ,

Mainly because they had heard of my plight , And offered to help me out ,

I am so glad that there are people out there willing to to help put a few wrongs by others right ,

hope my old zed is still going sold it to a really top bloke in portsmouth , reg h**3dmy in black auto tt

anyways i heard a ztech was taken over by his brother ?

Hello Paul, long time eh? and yes we are still going and the good news is so is your zed! it returns here each year for service and MOT etc.

As far as Ztech is concerned they are well gone despite a few reincarnations their poor rep could not be shaken off.
