My accelerator pedal sometimes sticking at the top (when depressed) so when I put my foot down I have to give it a bit of a stamp to move it.

Anyone got any ideas? It's as if a magnets got it?

My throttle pedal once jammed wide open while pulling onto the motorway. "Interesting" on a TT to say the least. As it turned out, wasn't the pedal, it was the thing at the other end where the throttle cables pull on the actuator and when floored, the actuator was pulled just a wee bit too far so the return spring didn't. Bit of adjustment and it was OK.

Maybe your cables / actuators are sticking somewhere, not the pedal?

you can also get this if the cable is fraying at any point between when it enters the firewall or the length of its travel through its protective metal and plastic tubing, had this happen on one of my old cars (not a zed) and the cable eventually snapped, luckily it was out side my house and not the day before when i was doing a 500mile round trip.

Considering the cable runs from the pedal through the fire wall via a grommet running inside a wired plastic covered sleeve and to the throttle bodies, its worth checking it over.

Take the throttle body pipes off and check for obstructions, unplug the throttle cable from the linkage, id check the butterfly's open correctly and do not stick in their travel when manually operating the throttle linkage by hand, if they do its something to do with the throttle controls on the plenum, you can also see if its the cable with it disconnected from the throttle linkage, get someone to put their foot on the pedal while offering resistance at the engine bay side of the cable, you should feel if the cable is fraying, as there should be a notchy feeling thats transmitted through the cable on your hands, if you cant feel it being notchy but the cable then gets "snagged" id say its cable related and needs to be changed before it snaps or wedges the throttle wide open when driving.

It's definitely nit a throttle open problem. It's just when trying to press the pedal :/

might want to check the pedal travel

move the drivers seat back fully, undo the steering rack trim cover, get a torch and get under there and have a look to see if you are not getting anything caught on the pedal bud, could have a wire / tube or something getting stuck under there thats restricting the pedal travel. ive had that with my clutch pedal before and it eventually got to the point i couldnt get the car in gear, didn't realise there was a small tube that connected the AIR vents that had worked its way loose and got wedged between the pedal and its stopper. the same tube goes under the steering column

As above mate, it not a throttle open thing. It's trying to press it down

Thats exactly one of the symptoms of the issue. It all depends how its catching. If you've checked it then fine, but if not its certainly worth checking.

Otherwise its a case of getting in the footwell and checking the pedalbox for binds.

I'm getting the same on mine too, I'll check the breather pipes tomorrow.

Will be keeping an eye on this thread.

hmmm!

Im getting a similar problem

Will be looking under bonnet tomorrow

simple fix with thread lock and tapped back in thems breather pipes

I looked before and they hadn't budged

yeah, and agree but it's worth doing a thorough check... both by trying to move them and with the engine running and pressing the accelerator...

It wasn't easy to see mine where the problem. :)

Right, an update.

On mine it's definitely not the cable... I disconected the hammer at the end and the pedal was then perfectly fine and the bit where the end of the cable attached to was still sticking slightly to move.

Looking at it, the linkage all looks fine and isn't catching anything. So I had a feeling it might have possibly been the springs just being old and possibly not enough grease on them. I sprayed some wd40 type stuff and worked it in by opening and closing the throttle (could just press and release the pedal or use your fingers with the linkage).

I've also tightened the throttle cable as I thought there seemed to be a lot of slack. I took it out last night and it seemed a lot better. But it did still stick the odd time, with being right at the top of the pedal (fully closed throttle) it was hardly noticeable.

So I was having a good look around it again today and found a bit loose and just needed an 8mm bolt tightening as shown in the video. It now feels great but I havent took it out properly so will give another update to confirm if this has fixed it or not.

Hope this helps someone. Bob might be worth you checking this pal.

just a thought... if the TB's are really dirty inside that may cause it to stick as well....

Also there is a thread around somewhere about adjusting those linkages, it's very important that it's done right (both TB's should be balanced) otherwise it throws the idle and everything out.

found it...

:) worth checking...

Definitely worth checking because i do think the idle might have changed when I've done the bolt.

I was going to do the TB's but time went too quick with other things I was doing :(

Thanks for the link, will have a look

Mine isn't giving me great concern but if I remember correctly from a while back, it sticks at idle at 750rpm say, you have simulated a soft touch on your pedal taking idle to perhaps 825rpm and therefore now your issue as gone as it's no longer at the bottom of it's travel :cool3:

Just had a read of that, so ive potentially moved the idle.

Only thing is houghton, mine of very loose so I'm thinking I wouldn't want to loosen it back off if that makes sense

Right been out and checked the throttle bodies thingy. Wasn't out loads but was a touch. Just out in the car and what I'd done (in the vid) seems to have sorted the sticky pedal thing... Woohoo
